Default Amanda Lear

Just wondered why Amanda Lear never caught on over here in the UK.
I know that "Follow Me" is regarded as a disco evergreen as some - but why no commercial success over her? Was she considerd too "hardcore" compared to Boney M?
It amazes me that upon listening time and time again to the lp "I am A photograph", that the Queen Of Chinatown - (surely her true classic), wasnt released ( correct me if i'm wrong).

Amanda was, and still is, cult here in Italy and in bigger part of Europe (Spain, France Germany, Scandinavia, Greece, Holland).
She (He?) was/is THE cult diva for european gay communities like Grace Jones was in the US.

I am not 100% sure bu when I was a dj I had a 12" of "Queen of Chinatown", released in Italy on yellow wax (or maybe it was "Fashion Pack"...... really can't remember now and those records are lost)

I believe Amanda does have a bit of an underground cult rep in the UK as well. When I spinned in London the biggest screams erupted when I cued to the gong in the beginning of "Follow Me". After this an actual woman, not a gender illusionist, tapped the booth wall to request "Queen Of Chinatown".

I'm unusual as i prefer Amanda's 80's/90's/naughties stuff to her 'classic' 70's stuff. I always think the music on her 70's stuff is a bit too 'James Last' pour moi! :-? Tracks like 'Assasino' ('84), 'Fantasy Face' ('93) & 'I Just Wanna Dance Again' ('02) are some of the best tracks of the last 20 years IMO & none of them even got released in the UK! (this country stinks  ) I have to go to mainland Europe to buy her stuff but it's worth it; what a personality. They just dont make 'em like Ms.Lear anymore in today's market researched, wind-tunnel tested, consumer pap world (I'm going down that 'old fart' road again arent I- sorry guyz & gals.)

Take care,
