Default Yazoo

Can yazoo be considered as Hi-NRG sound?

If the answer is yes, can we vote for yazoo songs in the "top 500 Disco" songs ?

And if the answer is yes again, can somebody explain me why Don't go and goodbye 70's are not even in the top 100? :)

Put those songs in a party, your feet will just start to dance ....

"Considered", yes. Regarded by most people? Not really. Synth pop is more like it.

Goodbye 70s wasn't a single, so most people who don't have that album have never heard it. Personally, although I love Yazoo, I hate that song and especially the message behind it.

You're right this forum is not the right place to talk about a song called "goodbye 70's" :)

I absolutely haven't thought about the lyrics of this song, shame on me .... but I really like the synth melody, the rythm of the voice ...

I think the lyrics of don't go are "discoally correct" ;) , and I would just like to know if I can vote for this song ...

I thought I knew all the Yazoo/Yaz (in the U.S) songs...BUT I never heard of "Goodbye '70's" . When was this released?
Is it Vince Clark with Alison Moyet singing?

It was originally on both the US and UK versions of "Upstairs At Eric's".

In addition to the different name, both Yaz(oo) albums have different tracklistings in Europe vs North America.

Oh, and is it just me, or is it completely absurd to have a "greatest hits" package for an act that only did two albums and one non-LP single in the two years they were together?!

The line between synth-pop and hi-nrg is visible, but may sometimes be blurred. While THOMAS DOLBY is synth-pop for sure (or techno-pop here in Brazil), The Pet Shop Boys never were. They are (rightly or wrongly) perceived by the media in general as hi-nrg (here at least). I think Yazoo or Erasure stand in the same position as the PSB (if we don't go too further into labeling)....

When the PSB played live here in Brazil in the Very tour (DISCOvery Tour), they were much covered by the media which said they were "THE GREATEST DISCO BAND IN THE WORLD".... this in 1994

Replying to my own last post... let me tell just one more thing:

I don't know in UK or US..., but here in Brazil, NEW ORDER is perceived by the public and media as one of the best 80's ROCK bands in the world, along with THE SMITHS, THE CURE & SIOUXE & BANSHEES.

How come????????????!!!!!!!!!

Everything I heard from them, It would fit better under the hi-nrg label:

BLUE MONDAY
BIZARRE LOVE TRIANGLE
THE PERFECT KISS
WORLD (THE PRICE OF LOVE)
SPOOKY
REGRET
WORLD IN MOTION....etc

I know you're all gonna kill me (if you only could)... but forgive me: to me, when I was dancing in a disco in the 80's I didn't see any difference between New Order or Hazel Dean
