Default Current Hi-NRG

Could anyone recommend some current groups or singers that would be the closest thing to euro-hi-nrg from the eighties.

Also, what is the difference, between, hi-nrg, house, trance, and techno?

From what I've heard today on clubs I don't think there isn't anything out there that can be compared to the great 80s Hi NRG and Italo.

Believe it or not, earlier this year I was at a club they played the original version of Megatron Man by Patrick Cowley and everyone thought it was so cool. They wanted to know who did it and when I told them this song was from 20 years ago they all went :o LOL

Some people in Italy say that Gigi D' Agostino is doing the 80s Italo revival, but I haven't heard any of his works so I can't judge on this.

Default Gigi D'Agostino

I have heard some stuff by Gigi D'Agostino. It is somewhat like 80s Hi-NRG, but its also kind of dark and little depressing. Hi-NRG gives a euphoric feeling. Gigi's music is sort of haunting. His best one is "La Passion Medley with Rectangle"

I agree with you that Hi NRG gives an euphoric feeling too everytime you listen to it. I've only listened to "Giorno Credi" by Gigi D' Agostino.

Even if today they tried to make Hi NRG and Italo I'm sure it would lack the magic it had in the late 70s and 80s.

Sadly it's all gone...

Besides Hi NRG do you like New Wave or other 80s stuff?

Default new nrg

Yeah, I love new wave. What about groups like La Bouche, Corona, Eiffel 65, Vengaboys, etc. They have the Hi-NRG feel, even if its not exactly the same. If its called europop, there is a chance that I might like it, but I never know until I've paid for it and listened to it. I just bought a Kylie Minogue CD that I hate!

It seems to me that the current trend in club music is very tired and harsh. Maybe it will change into something more upbeat in the next few years.

Corona, La Bouche, Vengaboys, and Eiffel 65 are awesome artists/groups. I really like their music a lot and yeah it moreless gives that energetic feeling. Eiffel 65's "Move Your Body" is one of my favorite songs.

BTW did you buy Kylie's Fever CD? I have it and I think it's cool. Well I guess different ears, different opinions

I think there has to be a dramatic change in club music soon and maybe music in general like there was in every decade. We've been like this for almsot a decade now.

Is La Bouche still out there? I heard the female singer passed away in an accident. It was just after the death of Aaliyah in that plane crash. I remember thinking how freakish for two young female artists to die so tragically and in such a short time frame.

Nikky:

I really don't know if La Bouche is still out there. Also I didn't know one of the girls had passed away  That's so sad to hear. Do you like Italo Nikky?

Default Joy!!

Voyage, I just found a copy of an obscure song called "I'm Gonna Make You Want Me" by Gina Lamour. Do you know her by any chance, and, if so, what else did she do? I've been looking for this song for years.

Mt personal opinion is that alot of post-1990 hi-nrg music all sounds similar & uninspired because of the technology used to make it. Back in the 80's good old analogue drum machines & sequencers were de rigeur but nowadays its all programmed drum loops & samples which gives it a very 'designed in a wind tunnel' sameyness.

Almighty and Klone Records are UK Hi-NRG - both been around some years and still going - mainly doing cover versions and (in the case of Almighty) remixes for CD singles and promos of pop acts.

Some of the older releases are better, since Almighty especially seem to be moving more to a pop/trance sound.

The difference between House, Hi-NRG, Trance, Techno?

Does your nick come from the Jill Jones song? I have to say that I'm crazy about this track and I wish I could get my hands on a decent copy of the video clip.... *sigh*

Yes it does! I'm a big Prince fan, especially of the artists he produced like Jill Jones and the Family.

You can get the video on p2p software like WinMX, I got it myself from there earlier this year.

Great song - Prince was in his element in that time period.
