Energyguy,
Do you happen to have a U.K. or U.S. HI NRG chart from 1988 (from hi nrg's heyday before it -- slowly, but surely -- came to an end?

1988? Surely you mean 1985!

Just been listening (through headphones so I could crank it up), that Animal Nightlife track on vinyl plus:

Arnie's Love - Date With The Rain
Meccano - Down Down Romeo
Digital Emotion - Get Up Action
The Back Bag - Dial My Number
Two Girls - Another Boy In Town
Rick Springfield - Celebrate Youth (Dance Mix)
Ziggy - No Police
DJ's Factory - A View To A Kill
Man Parrish - Heatstroke

having great fun recording them to CD.

No, I mean 1988. It wasn't a typo. I can still remember when I stopped going to the clubs and it wasn't the year 1985. What about "Crazy Dreams" by Tyrants in Therapy, "Affection" by Desire, "If you love somebody" by Barbara Doust, "Energy is Eurobeat" by Man 2 Man, and "Did you see that girl" by Lime? These tracks were released in '87/'88 just to name a few examples.
"No Police" and "Heatstroke" are superb tracks, by the way. Very good stuff.

Aha - but for me House music had replaced Hi-nrg, slowly creeping into gay club playlists from 1985 onwards, and by 1988 it was all I was listening to really.

Hi-nrg hey day for me would be 1983-1985:

Barbara Fowler - When That Boy Comes Knockin
Paul Parker - Shot In The Night
Lime - Guilty
Fun Fun - Happy Station
Technique - Can We Try Again
Anything & everything by Mr Cowley
American Fade - I'm Alive

The hi-nrg sound from 1988/1989 was imho rather hit n miss and had gone past its sell-by-date (hence the emergence of House and it's eventual world domination)

Keep the vibe alive

I largely agree with you. The tracks that you listed are excellent ones! I think it depends on how you define the term "hi nrg era" or "hi nrg hey day." Three years is a very short time. I haven't changed my mind and I am not trying to back off or back out. In my opinion the hi nrg "era" began as far back as 1981/1982. Just think of Cowley's early masterpieces (Menergy - 81; I Wanna Take You Home - also in 1981 I believe; Going Home, Do You Wanna Funk), Divine (Shoot Your Shot, Native Love), The Flirts (Passion, Calling All Boys), Jade (I'm Gonna Get Your Love), Lisa (Jump Shout, etc.). After 1985, high energy music was still played in the clubs and I can still remember buying "tons" of hi nrg material between 1985 and 1988.

Hi Nrg music makes us happy!

I loved that period in the gay clubs when the best tunes were instantly identifiable as US or Canadian productions, with a smattering of early House tunes thrown in for good measure, PLUS the best of British synth pop, which worked really well in the mix. (I'm defo talking about 1985-6 here)

Jennifer Holiiday - No Frills Love
Peppermint - Light A Light
Deborah - Danger For Love
Simplicious - Let Her Feel It (Must grab that to spin again)
Skipworth & Turner - Thinking About Your Love
all mixed up with:
Visage - Night Train (12" extended mix)
Simple Minds - I Travel
Human League - Seconds
Japan - Like In Tokyo
Barb - I Want My Money Back
Eurythmics - Sweet Dreams / Love Is A Stranger
Sense - You Cry (FGTH meets Bronski Beat and gives birth to Pete Burns!)
And all the Anthony Stephens stuff, with Sassoon churning out crap-loads on Passion, Electricity, Record Shack - basically UK produced tracks but with US influences. After that came hi-nrg's slower cousin Eurobeat, with it's classics:

Off's - Electrica Salsa,
Tuillio - Stop Bajon Primivera
Rose Laurens - American Love
Desireless - Voyage Voyage
Modern Talking - You're My Heart
Lian Ross - Fantasy
Creative Connection - Scratch My Name

All slower than hi-nrg but still cool.

after that? Hmmm the bass for me dropped off and the production became tinny, shrill and somehow much more manufactured....rather than the underground stuff we were used to.

The European sound for me, did become just too cheecy / lightweight and what seemed an abundance of cover verions just made matter worse.

As I've laready said the last great Hi-nrg tune EVER (IMHO) was Mike Hemmer's - Divine, sounding like it was made a coupla years earlier.

Keep on keeping on

I guess I'm talking about SAW production - where to me everything sounded the same, without any real reedling factors. Heard one, you've heard em all. Just like Nightmare releases.

What was that tune by Bobby & Susan Wells (if indeed it was them) - Found A Cure or sommat similar, which I'd always found in bad taste due to HIV being in the headlines so much and friends dropping like flies

Bad call.
