| "Your Love Brings Me To My Knees" Marcia Hines Australian diva's best ever. Her daughter Deni is a star as well. "Jump The Gun" Three Degrees This should make the sexual list. After all, it's about oral sex. Get out the lyric sheets.. "The Fun Cry" Cerrone Listen closely and you'll hear this as an early demo of "Call Me Tonight" from Cerrone V. "Step By Step" Peter Griffin One of the best ever Hi-NRG tracks from Germany. The album had nothing as good on it,but this was a huge classic in Canada when I was playing.. Vincent |

| Which Cerrone LP is 'The Fun Cry' from? ('Call Me Tonight' is also on Cerrone IX as well as Cerrone V).

| Ah.....that pesky "Fun Cry"!!! When we were attempting to make playlists for Troc stuff...this song sounded soooo much like "Call Me Tonight"...I think it was actually credited to Kongas. Is that right? OK, went to the Bible... 1978 brought the release of a 12" single on the New York-based disco label Salsoul, which featured "Anikana-O" and "Kongas Fun," their two best-known and most-compiled tracks. Wait.......is "The Fun Cry" part of "Kongas Fun"???? Seems like I was told it was the b-side of something. :o

| Thanx Vincent. Yes, Kongas was a sort of side project of Cerrone's wasn't it?

| Yes Steely, and the Africanism CD with his dazzling cover of "Gimme Some Lovin'" with "Africanism" breakdown arranged by Don Ray is beyond a must have... Vincent |

| "the fun cry" is by kongas - it was the b-side to their 12" version of "why can't we live together" - it was essentially a re-write/remake of "call me tonight," which came first and in my estimation was the prettier, more orchestral track. "the fun cry" has a more typical early-to-mid-'80s NRG arrangement and sound, and slightly different lyrics. |

| Going to The Saint I kept dancing to "Living In A Box" and a catchy track which went "I kiss your boots if you kick me around" - probably something out of Italy. |

| Was The Saint totally gay/male or did it have more mixed nights? I always imagined it not to be as mixed as somewhere like Paradise Garage for example.

| the saint was totally-super-duper-mega-mondo-three-dollar-bill-liza-minnelli gay. man-on-man-sex-in-the-balcony gay. so-many-men-so-little-time-miquel-brown gay. it might have had some straight nights at the very, very end of its run just to keep the place in business, but i'm not sure. |

| As a cool Scandinavian man of the world Jussi, weren't u slightly tempted to wander up to that balcony & try what it's like on the 'other side of the duvet'? You don't have to answer (I'm being a bit naughty aren't I?) but to be serious for a moment, can I just say I admire you for being so cool & I just wish that everyone in the world had a similar approach to life.

| jussi notwithstanding, the saint was an extremely gay environment. by 1980, there was a huge population in and around nyc that was going out of their way to identify as gay, and the saint was their temple. a straight guy would need a gay member to get him into the saint and essentially be "undercover," where as at the paradise garage the look and vibe was less exclusively gay-identified. it was not only easier to blend in at the garage, but more socially acceptable. the head dj on the black station in nyc was super-straight and was always talking on the radio about what records he heard larry levan play at the garage - there was no equivalent of that going on at the saint. when i worked at a record store in nyc, you'd get straight black guys asking for records that were played at the garage, but you'd hardly ever get straight white guys asking for records that were only played at the saint. it would be interesting to discover that there were straight saint members, but they would be in the extreme minority. |
