Default June 25th 1983

Browsing my one remaining Record Mirror and checking the top 30 Boys Town Chart.

and realised I don't know nearly half of the entries!!

Susan Stevens - Love School / Get To You
Nancy Martinez - So Excited
Nancy Martinez - Take It Slowly
Azul Y Negro - No Tengo Tiempo
Bill Fredericks - Too Busy Thinking Bout My Baby (Obviously a cover version)
La Mama - Lady Marmalade (And another)
India - Stay With Me
Shirely Lites - Heat You Up (Melt You Down) (Know the title but never heard it)
Phyllis Nelson - Stop Don't Do This To Me
Vera - Baby Won't You Dance With Me
Julius Brown - Party
Oh Romeo - These Memories

and mentioned in the record reviews was:

Stereo Fun Inc - Got You Where I Want You Babe

which got a very good write-up. Anyone hear this or can comment on any of the above?

Mark :)

PS: Can't believe Booker Newbury III - Love Town was #24!!

Ever-ning Marmite.

That Shirley Lites track is FAB. It was on West End and sizzles for 6 mins!!! A forerunner of house? Quite synthy as well but soulful as well. GET IT MATE! A hit a the Paradise Garage and the Warehouse.

Azul y Negro 'No tengo tiempo' (I don't have time) was the follow up to the Boystown no.1 'The night'. A Spanish production in a euro style. Not as good as 'The night'.

Julius Brown. LOL. Neil hates this record!! Not bad, quite zingy male vocal on US West End.

Vera. Good typical diva vocals. Ok for its type.

Oh Romeo 'These memories'. A hinrg classic. Bobby O production and typical of that time. Fast, female vocals with a definate Bobby O sound.

Oooooooh, I forgot.

Stereo fun Inc is another Hinrg classic strings and cooing chix.
A Moby Dick production.

Phyllis Nelson 'Stop don't do this to me'. I like this. A bit slower than Hinrg at around 117bpm but has that Hinrg feel. I like it better than 'Don't stop the train' but it's not as good as 'I like you'.

I love that Phyllis nelson track - I prefer the viola wills version which I now have on a HINRG compilation album. I actually played that India track the other night... AND I STILL HATE IT   (Sorry Dave...)

Both the Nancy Martinez tracks are fantastic espeically Take It Slowly. Well worth tracking both of them down. They came out on Matra, there was an album as well. Used to have it but I think I sold it last year

Shirley Lites , agreed wicked track :D

India - Stay with me is good as well 146bpm!

Phyllis Nelson - great track as well as is Stereo Fun Inc.

Don't know the Susan Stevens tracks only have This Is Love by her

Azul y negro is a nice track too, bit more laid back than The Night

Vera - Baby Won't You Dance is great too and These Memories by Oh Romeo

Julius I was never a huge fan of but it's ok :-?

Susan Steven is excellent,"Get to you" one of her best.If you can find "I love everything you do" and "This is love", buy.
Stereo Fun Inc worth tracking down as it's FAB.
Agree with Andy, Nancy Martnez both are great tracks.

The Stereo Fun Inc track is fab.It was also written by Hazell Dean! I remember this from an interview she had given.

I love the Julius Brown track.A bit more on the early house tip with a good catchy melody and vocal.

Forget Azul Y Negro. No where as good as the excellent 'The Night'.

I always thought Julius Brown's 'Party' sounded like an old Northern Soul song given the hi-nrg treatment but I was shocked to see it was written by that 'pearly-toothed queen' himself (Ian Levine's description!) Jacques Morali :o

Sorry to be picky but I think you'll find that the Stereo Fun Inc track was written by Elton Ahi, whoever she is!
