Three of my favorites:

Morning Music by St. Tropez
You'll Never Know by Hi-Gloss
Dancing With The Desperate by Norma Lewis (not exactly "disco", but it's sleaze)

If you're looking for sleazy sleaze, try Cruising In The Park by Martin Lacey & Angie Gold...truly tacky and tasteless, you just won't believe anyone had enough bad taste to write such a song, much less record it!

"Sleaze" means different things to different folks. :-?

In NYC --all the pretty lower-tempo records that we called "morning music" in SF--were classified as Sleaze"

In terms of really sleeeeeeeeeeaaazzzzzzzy beats--I'd mention "Dance Godammit" by Sparks.....it's just a sleazy, rutting on the dance floor beat, around 108 bpm--it's the b-side of the 12" of "All You Ever Think About is Sex" and the short version is on the Sparks In Outer Space LP.

I never heard it played anywere--except in my various homes!!! But it's sleeeeeeeaaaazzzzzzzzzzzy! :P :P :P

"Do wanna daaance? Do ya wanna Daaaance?
Dance Godammit!!"

Super D...

I don't think you understand the term "sleaze." :-?

"Sleaze" is not "Disco Duck" or "Macho Man." Duh. :o

duh!( is that a California surfer thing markydefad? :o ) let me think???????.....The beat is despicable......the context of the lyrics(macho man) was odious(me being a male feminist), the words are tacky and the members are disreputable ,shoddy, dingy characters...... can you think of any other idioms, vernaculars or informals...... sounds like sleazy to me.....but that's a Detroit thing

Peace bro'tha

Super D... (does the D stand for...D__) :P I'm kidding!!

Your'e equating Sleaze with tacky or cheesy. :o

I'm referring to it's nasty quotient...the bump & grind...the heat in the groin....the rutting on the dancefloor aspect. :P

Not it's prettiness. :-?

Not it's tackiness. :-?

The nastiness. :D :D :D

The sleaziest of the Sleaze.

Oh, there are just tooooo many. But, for the moment:

Phyllis Hyman - "Loving You, Losing You" or "Kiss You All Over"
Johnny Bristol - "Take Me Down" or "Love No Longer Has a Hold On Me"
Ashford & Simpson - "It Seems to Hang On"

Hell, marky, list side 2 of that cassette!

---- Could I use this thread to relate a little sleaze story? :D

---- When I think back on this now I find it very amusing ..... but believe me at the time it was a DJ's worst nightmare.

---- Towards the end of 1979 the Village People came out with their newest album " Live and Sleazy" featuring "Ready For The Eighties" --- I didn't yet realize it but actually they weren't ... and this release sank like a disco duck. But at the time they were still very very hot and this release was at first received with a similar level of excitementt as a new Donna Summer release might ( not quite , but somewhat ). I believe this was a double LP , as was the common marketing strategy at Casablanca.

---- I listened to it and thought the stand-out cut was the fast tune called " Sleazy " . I liked the overall sound and was happy that this was a more high energy number for them . I played a lot of high energy so this could turn out to be a winner. ---- I have to admit I didn't really focus on the lyrics too much.

---- I was eager that night to be introducing a new Village People release. I hoped the crowd would be enthused. It was up there in beats per minute so I planned it pretty late ... during peak time ... probably slipped it in amongst Fever 's "Beat Of The Night " and "Move On Up" etc..

---- It was a really good night at the club too, great party crowd , nice and crowded. The floor is consistently full. So I mix into this new Village People song , and its going over ! It's clearly the vocals of the Village People, the crowd receptively recognizes them , and the floor is staying full. It's always great when the crowd stays on board for a brand new song.

--- But as this cut plays, it continues to go on about how sleazy they are . And I notice a couple of people drop out . Then a couple more. Two more. The song is repeating "..... because I'm SLEEEAZYYY!!" This is being yelled out by the Village People full volume throughout the club. My booth is above the dance floor.... and now I can kind of see the distaste on the dancers' faces as they start paying attention to the lyrical contents of this song. There's gestering to their partners to get off the floor. Suddenly this wasn't such a happy crowd any more and I watched in horror as there was this instantaneous mass exodus from the dance floor !! No one wanted to be the last one left dancing to this sleazy ditty!! .....

I have never before or since seen such a drastic change on a dance floor! From jumping and packed to completely empty in 30 seconds!! :D :D

I never played it again .

Just wondering here ...being non english and all

The term "sleazy". Does it actually fit as a musical description? I know people can be sleazy (and that obviously includes artists) but does the same go for music?
How would you define the actual difference between sleazy and campy music then?
