| When I started going to my first disco in the Seventies, I used to arrive early and the DJ would always be playing warm-up tunes as the club-goers were arriving. Normally it wold be stuff like one side of a Munich Machine or a Donna Summer LP. Then ... the lights started flashing and out blasted MECO with Theme From Star Wars. At last, the real action was under way!!! The dancing was just about to begin!! Even to this say, I remember MECO with great fondness, and I still feel a buzz of anticipation running down my spine every time I hear it. A couple of years later (and even better) we used to have a Wednesday night club. This time, the DJ would turn out the lights and HIT you with the KAYGEES and Kilowatt Invasion!! Every time!! The place would be flashing with lasers and strobe lights!!! the air would be pounded by this RAW FUNK blasting out at 1000 watts!!!. In a coupLe of words - UTTER PANDEMONIUM!! Those are two examples I remember of DJ's with their signature tunes - a sure sign that the night was just about to begin!! Anybody else have similar memories? Do you hear a certain tune and still get that buzz of anticipation after all these years??

| Jazz, I'm not a Pro-DJ but in my days , when I was Dj'ing in some party the signature song was "OVERTURE" by THE MIRACLES - great song, I love it "so-very-too-much"!!!!!! Peace.

| 'Boogie Through The Looking Glass Medley' (it was the Earth, Wind And Fire's/Emotions 'Boogie Wonderland' with bits of Disco classics mixed in every time the song said 'Dance, Dance, Dance'. It was an uptempo start of the evening! |

That was a nice LP back in the days of record reviewing in 1977. The Kay-Gees were more of a modern version along the lines of Crown Heights Affair and Kool & The Gang. More synthesized funk from a group on the same label as the groups mentioned previously. Great job! _________________ THE BEST, KEPT SECRET IS OUT! [ This Message was edited by: The Lord of Flatbush on 2002-06-26 10:56 ] |
