| Donna Summer's "Once Upon A Time" LP is a 5 in my book. I think it is her BEST LP--consistently topnotch throughout. I think you overrated "Saturday Night Fever" cause while it IS a landmark, there is a lotta instrumental filler, IMHO. I'd give it a 4. I can live with the rest of your rankings, except the Cerrone. Maybe a 3???!!!

| I'm having a "crisis of conscience" at this late hour. Looking at the track listings of "Bad Girls" and "Thriller"--I have to give them both 5's. There are few (maybe 4) less than stellar cuts on side 2 and side 3 of "Bad Girls"--BUT the rest of the tracks are of such a high caliber that it has to merit a 5. The same for "Thriller" ("Billie Jean", "Beat It", "Wanna Be Starting Something" are 3 of Jackson's best (ALL A+ IMHO) and the rest--except for "The Girl Is Mine" (C-) are all in the B to B+ range. Sorry to change the rating from nubers to letter grades. But ya get the idea. Right? _________________ Make My Feet Wanna Dance! | Dear MARKY, I gave a 5 for SNF because I think it's an album that summarize DISCO MUSIC for the mainstream crowd in a VERY VERY intelligent way. I'm not a fan of some of the tracks, like A FIFTH OF BEETHOVEN or CALYPSO BREAKDOWN or SALSATION or NIGHT(MARE) ON THE DISCO MOUNTAIN, but as a whole the album covers lots of basis when it comes to DISCO MUSIC: it contains some PHILLY SOUL (TRAMMPS, MFSB), CLASSIC and LATIN INSTRUMENTAL TRACKS (the mentioned ones), POP DISCO (the BEE GEE's stuff), MIAMI DISCO/SOUL (KC) and SOULFUL DISCO (TAVARES, KOOL & THE GANG). All these subgenres of DISCO are included on the album, giving to the listener a great view of what's happening with dance music at the times. BTW. I think the movie is excellent - but I'll talk about it later. About DONNA SUMMER: BAD GIRLS is virtually perfect (there are few weak tracks) and I REMEMBER YESTERDAY is a kind of a "soul" album by DONNA SUMMER (it contains a EARLY MOTOWN sounding song, BACK IN LOVE AGAIN, do you remember this one?). I have a strong connection with this album by DONNA - I love her recording of CAN'T WE JUST SIT DOWN (AND TALK IT OVER). I like ONCE UPON A TIME too, I gave it a 3, which is a good note. You can list some albums with ratings too. Come on, I'm curious! Peace, zeca azevedo: 0! |

| Here are my ratings of some albums: Motown Disc-o-tech #3 (compilation) 1976 5 Motown Disc-o-tech #4 (compilation) 1976 5 Van McCoy - The Real McCoy 1976 5 Van McCoy - Disco Baby 1975 5 Van McCoy - Love Is The Answer 1974 5 Saturday Night Fever 1977 (soundtrack) 4 (It's a great album, but there's one thing missing "Movin'" by the Brass Construction) Village People - Renaissance 1981 1 (They were not themselves plus it doesn't sound like disco) Village People - Macho Man 1977 4 Sylvers - Something Special 1976 4 Commodores - Machine Gun 1974 5 (This album kicks butt!!!) Disco Hustle 20 hits (compilation) 1977 5 (Fantastic spectrum of disco music from 1975 and 1976 including the beautiful "Salsa" by Louis Ramirez) Salsoul Orchestra - (self-titled) 1975 5 People's Choice - Boogie Down USA 1975 3 (The best track off that album is "Do It Any Way You Wanna", the rest of the tracks are okay but don't quite cut it except maybe "Boogie Down USA") Bee Gees - Main Course 1975 2 (The only tracks I go for are "Jive Talkin'", "Nights On Broadway" and "Wind Of Change", the rest are soft rock or love songs which I find a bit boring) Brass Construction I 1975 5 (Simply the best!!!) Brass Construction II 1976 5 (Simply the best!!!) Brass Construction III 1977 5 (Simply the best!!!) Donna Summer - Four Seasons Of Love 1976 5 KC & The Sunshine Band - Let's Party (CD compilation)1998 5 (This double CD compilation covers a great deal of tracks from a number of their albums, and some great songs to mention are "Shotgun Shuffle", "Sound Your Funky Horn", "Let It Go Pt 1", "Wrap Your Arms Around Me" etc...) Best Of Disco & Soul (compilation) 1977 5 (This album is an absolute masterpiece because it includes some really rare funk and disco such as "Say Goodbye" by Impact Of Brass, "Come Get To This" by Joe Simon, and includes the really cool "Rock Me Again & Again X6" by Lyn Collins, two funksters "Sex Machine" and "Get Up Offa That Thing" by James Brown, fantastic jazz/funk/disco piece "Hey Uh What You Say Come On" by Roy Ayers, great disco tracks like "House For Sale" by Millie Jackson, "Spanish Hustle" by Fatback Band, "How High The Moon" by Gloria Gaynor, and there's much more on this album. Actually it's so great I'll give the run-down of what's on it: Side A: 1 - James Brown - Sex Machine 1970 2 - Fatback Band - Spanish Hustle 1975 3 - Lyn Collins - Rock Me Again & Again X6 1974 4 - Mojoba - Keep The Funk A Flowin' 1976 5 - Gloria Gaynor - How High The Moon 1975 6 - Joe Simon - Get Down Get Down (Get On The Floor) 7 - Millie Jackson - House For Sale 1976 8 - Roy Ayers - Hey Uh-What You Say Come On 1976 9 - I.O.B. You really like Dee D. Jackson AND Vanusa after all! What? YOU SAID IT ON YOUR POST - you gave a 0 + to any Dee D. record - this is MORE THAN ZERO - so you like AUTOMATIC LOVER and METEOR MAN just a little (LOL). And Vanusa, well, you gave her 0 +++, so you like her music a little more (LOL)! If you want to say that you don't like a record at all, do exactly as I do when I rated CERRONE's SUPERNATURE - I gave it a 0 (zeroooooo!) from your friend, zeca azevedo: 0 +++! |
