Default A.V.I. / TK / WEST END / PRELUDE / SALSOUL / CASABLANCA /

In the late 70's/early 80's disco was accused to sound all the same. There was this general vibe that all disco artists sounded like each other.

But this is not true... Still, some record labels "imprint" the same sound or style to their artists.

Artist's differences apart, what I mean is this:
AVI disco records are too different from WEST END records

So, what you guys think are the main diferences in "type of music" among such diverse labels as AVI / SALSOUL / WEST END / PRELUDE / etc...

Of course the people who said that only went by what they saw on television and heard on top 40 radio. The club crowd knew differently.

There are great differences in "type of music" and sound within the same labels too.

I think similarities is more related to producers and engineers that gave their watermark to the productions and secondly to the overall "musical philosophy" of the label.

I don't know how to describe it, but those labels were all fabulous.

I agree with Noman

Generally,I think that Casablanca was aiming at commercial success. The "musical philosophy" and the purpose of this label was to make popular hits. Also Casablanca promoted eurodisco and electrodisco style, but I have to notice that the label gave us some of the greatest disco hits and artists.I can t describe the sound of Salsoul. My opinion is that Salsoul became the label
of the great remixes.I always think that the sound of Prelude was more underground and innovated(sometimes),and the sound of TKO more discofunky.

Casablanca's president Neil Bogart was certainly success oriented. He also signed rock and funk acts like Kiss, Angel and Parliament.
