Default Born To Be Alive : Another version

I've come upon one of those old records that I am curious about ...maybe somebody knows more ....... It's "Born To Be Alive" by Rick Summer - came out in 1979 . It's a very good record really and probably would've been more of a hit in it's own right had Patrick Hernandez not just done so. . It's well produced ( remixed by Jonathan Fearing ) and nicely packaged on Brass Records --- (never heard of before or since... --??--) with a nicely designed 12" single jacket .

Any idea why so much effort was put into a cover of a song that had already made it big recently?

BTW ---DJ Jimmy M ---- this is another one of those mislabeled records ---- the "B" side label says it's a song called ----"SHAKE IT UP" .... but when palyed it turns out to be the instrumental version of "Born To Be Alive"

There are two versions of the 12 - the original has 'Shake It Up' on the flip and the other has an instrumental of 'Born To Be Alive' as the b-side. Brass Records obviously couldn't be bothered to change the label.

By the way, Brass released quite a few records between 1979 and 1982 - many of them disco and a few were early rap 12s. 'Shake It Up' is one of the better disco items, IMO. The label morphed into Roy B. Records (Pizazz, Melody Stewart, Soccer, Barbara Roy, Weeks & Co., etc.).

One of the 1979 releases was 'We Rap More Mellow' by The Younger Generation, which was based on Stephanie Mills' 'Put Your Body In It' and is still a truly awesome record, which can never be bettered.

I suppose you're right there (hadn't really thought about it), but whenever I play it (and I'm not really concentrating too hard) I always mentally get ready to wiggle along to Oneness Of Juju's Every Way But Loose and then think oh, yeah!

off topic but there is now a version being played in the clubs by a group called disco kings - born to be alive that has that Benny Benassi beat to it.
