I also remember another dance show from L.A. that was on daily after school at about 4:00 p.m. The show was very similar to American Bandstand. It was on the air around 1975-1976...I remember watching the group "Faith, Hope, & Charity" perform. But I don't remember the name of the show... But it was a good show!

Mario,

it's funny that you mentioned that show.... because the times mesh! I don't remember them having guests, but I remember it didn't last more than 3 months... it was off pretty quickly in San Diego. I believe the host was male w/ blonde hair? same show?

CHiPs! Both Leif Garrett and Laura Branigan performed. Not to mention the cheesy background disco music performed in the chases that I still can't track down and the disco theme performed by Corniche. Don't forget about the roller disco acts too where a woman gave birth on the dance floor and Ponch and Jon came to the rescue.

Isn't anyone from the UK brave enough to mention 'The Hitman & Her', hosted by Pete Waterman and Micheala Strachan?????? OK it was on at 2:00 am in the morning and lasted two hours, but it did break some new artists - London Boys, etc, etc.

I await the backlash............

HM&H wasn't really disco though...But I have to say I miss it. After a good night's raving, it was a laugh to watch before dozing off.

Do you recall any of these UK music shows KayJayEm54?:

Dance Energy
BPM
Rapido
Razzamattaz
Sub TV
The Tube
Club X
Night Network (N-Sign Radio :-?)
Supersonic (We're talkin' '70s kitsch now)

An American series from the '70s called Midnight Special used to be shown on satellite over here in the late '90s. It would feature quite a mixture of rock and pop artists, but would usually have a few disco gems on the show like Evelyn King, Love & Kisses etc. Any US posters got some info on this show?

I have vague memories of a TeeVee show over here called "Midnight Special" broadcast on one of the Boston stations. It was during late '78 or '79. Watched it only a few times because it was on early in the morning (Saturday night/Sunday morning). Don't remember more because it was so loooong ago and I only remember watching it a coupla times.

Wow, I was a devoted Dance Energy viewer every week in the few years it was shown on BBC2, hosted by Normski (It did also spawn a couple of tie-in compilation CDs too).

One show I do remember was 'Hold Tight' (shown a couple of years after 'Razzamattazz') - filmed possibly at Alton Towers (a UK theme park). Also, who could forget 'The Chart Show', the ground-breaking Channel 4 music show with no presenters/hosts?!

Ian

Oh how much I would pay to have these shows on DVD!

My favorite show was Hot City. I remember watching the Jeff Kutash dancers and this made me want to be a dancer. I also remember seeing Sylvester for the first time singing Disco Heat with the Two Tons of Fun. Another show I liked was Disco '77. I didn't like Soap Factory too much but I did watch it a lot.

I read somewhere that this summer the best of the Midnight Special will be out on DVD. I remember an episode that featured Peaches & Herb, Sister Sledge and the Jeff Kutash dancers. I stayed up all night because I was too excited from watching it. :D

Default Summer 79'

I remember there was a "Summer Special" and it had some Disco artist performing. All I remember is seeing Linda Clifford singing "If My Friends Could Only See Me Now'. I'd kill for that tape recording.

By the summer of 1976 it was gone, replaced by reruns of old TV shows. They may have had some DJ there. I remember they'd interview the dancers. The reason I remember this is because many of my friends were on this show, but now I can't remember how they got on. The show was taped somewhere in Manhattan, possibly at a small disco on a weeknight.
(RickLamb5160) I was on The Soul Alive dance show in New York City back in January of 1978. The show began originally for New York City High Schools. Each Saturday Soul Alive would show case a High School, their students and a DJ of the week from that school. The D.J was nicknamed: S.I.D. for the School Information Desk. S.I.D. would do voiceovers for video clips of the schools' enviorment that made each High School unique. I was the DJ of the week when Al Green was on the show. He sang Belle (a ballard) and an up-tempo song.
It was filmed in what was at the time WPIX TV's news room on 42nd Street, Midtown Manhattan. You could see the weather maps and news desks behind the mirrored panels that they used for the show. The studio was very small. They would film 2 one hour shows every Saturday. It took about 6 to 7 hours to film each of those 1 hour shows. The weekend that my High School (LaGuardia Middle College H.S., the one on the campus of LaGuardia Community College in Long Island City, Queens, New York) was filmed, they also filmed Food & Maritime High School right afterwards. Their musical guests were The Manhattans.

They only filmed a handful of the High School episodes then changed the format by dropping the High Schoolers and adding professional dancers.
If anyone out there has any video footage or information as to where it can be obtained, please contact via email address below.

I'm really interested in the Soul Alive episode with Al Green as the musical guest.

Thank you,
Rick Lamb

I found an excerpt from "Fiebre del 2" the Mexican Disco TV Show, this part is from the groups contest. You'll hear "Revanche" by Revanche in the middle of the clip, the jury is deciding which male group was the best.

Look at the R2D2-type robot giving the prizes (Witch included a trip to LA). LOL.

At the end of each segment the public used to join the dancefloor.

Check out youtube for more excerpts of the show
