Default non stop disco album from ---!! 1974 !!

Since joining this forum I've become reinterested in my music and am now really glad I hauled around these boxes of records through the years. I'm one of those "savers" so i kept all my records --no matter how crappy i thought they were . Now I'm relistening --still lots of crap ---BUT ---also plenty that I passed over too quickly back then too . There was just too much music to appreciate all of it at the time.

ANYWAY ----- I've come upon and right now I am listening to a record i am so glad i grabbed at some used record store along the way ( actually the sticker is still on it, Music City --LA?-- $2.00). It's from 1974 and it's called:

14 GIANT DANCE HITS
DISCO PAR-R-R-R-TY
non stop music

on Spring records with music from 14 different acts such as Fred Wesley, Barry White, Mandrill etc. from 1972 and 1973. This record HAS THE ROOTS of disco on it !!--- Every cut has certain elements that tilts it towards disco ... each in its own way ... . these are 1972-73 songs.
Why is it called nonstop music ? The songs on this album actually segue into each other ... no pauses ....not by fades but by quick edits...simulating club play .
The liner notes are excellent --describes disco to a tee... small excerpt : DISCO Par-r-r-ty-- a slice of life ... a page in history... just plain brilliant stomping, shaking , thrilling , chilling rocking soul... with an appeal aimed as much at the white audience as it is at the black...." , "...the album's devoted to continuity.. catchy melodies, explosive rhythms , energetic vocals blending together ... the sound's tight and distinctinve .. professional and polished ...." ( written by Linda A. George (?) ) ----- again in 1974.

Does anyone else have it ? If so I'd love to hear your comments about it ...

((( Especially poignant right now since the opening song is : THINK (ABOUT IT ) by Lyn Collins , who just passed away. )))

Hi Georgeb ---- weren't you glad to come upon this LP ... I think it is a significant compilation of music that was on the edge of the birth of disco .... compiled before disco had yet fully emerged . Is your album cover yellow with six bad almost polariod looking shots of people dancing in either a primitive disco or maybe a house? ( Spring 6705 )

Were you already familiar with these songs? Some like Chakacha's "JUNGLE FEVER" or James Brown's " SEX MACHINE " went mainstream but many I'd never before heard and wouldn't if they weren't on this collection.... songs like "It's My Life " by The Mainstreeters......... I'm giving close attention to a song here called "Pepper Box" by the Peppers --- don't know a thing about it (1972) --- but I bet if I worked it into a mix of disco songs few would argue that it isn't true disco. Anyone know more about "Pepper Box"?

It'd be interesting to learn more about this project- who is Linda M. George , who wrote the album's liner notes?--- It was compiled by Lenny Silva at Media Sound in NY NY and also credits a remix engineer ----Alan Varner -----

Not to jack the topic but..I dont have this one but I have one on 8 Track called "Disco Party" (not to be confused with the TK 1978 one) on some unknown label that is an early "non stop mixing" thing (however its just razor jobed editing the songs together on beat type cuts). And has an interesting blend of what we now know as the roots of disco with..yes.. a few rock/pop tracks! lol (ive mentioned this 8 track before in another thread in the past)..just thought id mention it again here

I thought "Pepper Box" first came out in 1974, not 1972.

I heard it before, and it is not true disco; it's danceable synth-funk or, as they put it, "rocking soul". You may know that the Hues Corporation had a disco song called "Rockin' Soul" in 1974. I think we've solved our little "dilemma" then - "rocking soul" is a good term for discotheque music in general, even the non-disco music!

Pepper Box certainly did come out in 1972 and was a reasonably big hit in the UK? Memory fades...........

I'm still confused .The Hues Corp. had a song called "Rockin' Soul" that was disco .... But "Pepper Box" was not disco because it was rocking soul??

Also I made a mistake ----- Some cuts have two asterisks ** if it's a 1972 song .... One asterisk * if it's a 1973 copyrighted song . Pepper Box has only one * -- ( 1973 ) ....... Only Hank Ballard And The Midnight Lighters' "FROM THE LOVE SIDE" has two **. ---- Many aren't indicated with either.

---- Here are the "14 Giant Dance Hits"

Side 1:

THINK (ABOUT IT) 2:25
Lyn Colllins
LOVE DOCTOR 2:03 *
Millie Jackson
DOING IT TO DEATH 2:21 *
Fred Wesley and the JB's
IT'S MY LIFE 2:52 *
The Mainstreeters
PARRTY 2:17
Maceo and the Macks
DROWNING IN THE SEA OF LOVE 3:16
Joe Simon
TOM THE PEEPER 2:31
Act 1

Side 2:

JUNGLE FEVER 2:43
The Chakachas
FENCE WALK 2:36 *
Mandrill
PEPPER BOX 2:06 *
The Peppers
SEX MACHINE 2:11
James Brown
FROM THE LOVE SIDE 2:37 **
Hank Ballard and the Midnight Lighters
WHY CAN'T WE LIVE TOGETHER 2:08 +
Timmy Thomas
I'M GONNA LOVE YOU JUST A LITTLE MORE 4:03 ***
Barry White

---- Any comments about any of these songs ?
---- I've been listening to this collection and "PEPPER BOX" still jumps out as exceptionally discoish . "It's My Life" has the assertive party lyrics of early disco. ------ Barry White's sound seems to jump ahead of the rest by several notches here and was apparently positioned last to be the album's climax.... and is given four minutes of play ....

this is millies second finest moment, her best club cut is 'a house for sale' from the free and in love album, a popular track in the u.k for 29 years and a u.k only 7", copies are all gone and now $50 and rising
