| I've seen lotsa concerts--BUT the ones that stand out in my mind are: Barbra Streisand--I paid $300; friends got up at 3:00am to get in line for tickets (I slept in); we sat in about the 6th row off to the side; she was flawless--LIKE BUTTAH. Liza Minnelli--The "Liza With a 'Z'" tour after "Cabaret" and the TV special; saw her at the Minnesota State Fair twice in a row; She was stunning. A consummate performer--first-rate singing, dancing and emoting. She did lie, though. At the first show she told a long story about her favorite ballad that she learned from her father as they drove to MGM when Vincente was directing "Gigi". She sang "Someone To Watch Over Me". At the second show, she told the same story--but sang a different song!!!! A lesson in show biz "insincerity" for Marky. Bette Midler--Always the funniest performer and often with striking shows to match. She's never disappointed in energy, stamina & sheer chutzpah. Sometimes the numbers got a little sappy or overbaked. BUT--on stage she's a whirling dervish of comic genius. Diana Ross-- I revere the Diva. And in the late 70's-early '80's at her peak. Tina Turner--at the Wiltern, I think after "What's Love Got To Do With It". A dynamo. Patti LaBelle--loved her in some small funky club on Broadway in SF--AFTER La Belle and before solo stardom. Also as an opening act for Lou Rawls, at the revolving, tacky Circle Star Theatre in San Jose. I regret I never saw the fabulous LaBelle concerts in Oakland or Berkeley. What was the name of that Art Deco Theatre, Keefe? Yes I know. I AM such a fag. I also saw the Bee Gees, The Jacksons, Donna Summer, Joe Cocker, Roxy Music and they all had pretty terrific shows too. Everything else is a blur. _________________ Make My Feet Wanna Dance! | Bette Midler, Bette Midler, Bette Midler! I've seen her shows since 1975 and I've always left each concert with respect for her talent! Mark, I too saw Streisand, but I didn't have to wait in line to buy my ticket. I was lucky enough to find out about one of the charities that were selling tickets. So, not only did I get a fabulous seat where I was close enough to the stage to be able to easily see without binoculars, but most of the ticket price was tax deductible! |

| Hey everybody, I saw a show by SANTA ESMERALDA and SILVER CONVENTION here in my city in the late 70's. I don't remember the year exactly, all I can remember is that the stadium was packed with people and the show sucked. Maybe they are faux groups, I don't know, but, in spite of the lousy perfomance by the groups, me and my friends had lots of fun, since it was our first gig. The best concerts I ever attended are: - TREM AZUL TOUR by ELIS REGINA (the greatest brazilian singer EVER did the best performance I ever saw) (1981) - REALCE TOUR by GILBERTO GIL (1980) - STEVIE WONDER (1995) - even with the low quality of the sound and a boring crowd who wants to hear I JUST CALLED... and PART-TIME LOVER only, to see STEVIE performing was a dream come true. - WILSON PICKETT (I can't remember the year now, I think it's 1995, but I'm not sure) - VOODOO LOUNGE TOUR by THE ROLLING STONES (1995) - BUDDY GUY - ISAAC HAYES - P-FUNK ALL-STARS - JOĆO GILBERTO - CAETANO VELOSO (CINEMA TRANSCENDENTAL TOUR - 1980, I think, but I'm not sure) That's all I can remember now. | Well, let me see in those hazy days not really a concert goer: 1. Diana Ross in 1979 or 1980. 2. Sylvester in 1983 or 1984. 3. Temptations & Supremes in 1973 (Jean, Mary, and Cindy). 4. Village People 1979. 5. Village People 1978. 6. Barry White, Love Unlimited, Love Unlimited Orch. and The Dells in 1974. 7. Village People, Rose Royce, The Trammps, and Laura Brannigan in 1994. 8. Thelma Houston, The Trammps, and Gloria Gaynor in 1998. I guess that's it. |

| The first I went to was The Police in my hometown Mar del Plata. It was in 1980 and I was 15 years old. Probably their last tour on theaters. It was a 10, of course. Some other moments that come to mind, all in Buenos Aires: -Prince (1990 tour): a flawless concert, but it lasted only 77 minutes! Later I bought an Italian CD bootleg of that same show (oops! sorry Phil -David Bowie (1990 tour): all his classics, with Adrian Belew on guitar. -Beastie Boys (1994 tour): another standout. I realized how wrong I was on the B.B. and buyed all their records. -Rollins Band (1995): I don't listen to his records, but this show was awesome. Real power on the stage. -Rolling Stones (1995): the first time they played Argentina. -Madonna (1993): imaginative and flawless. -John Cale (1994): really magnetic. Hey, this list is pretty diverse, huh? -Iggy Pop (several times): always a killer. Also some jazz artists like Pat Metheny, Michel Petrucciani, Joe Pass... but no Miles Davis. Ouch! On the funky side, I had two experiences: Kool & The Gang six years ago (with Kool and J.T.) was a cool gig but a bit too much on the J.T. side (only three songs from the first era); and the other was Gloria Gaynor doing playback in a theater with a band of argies pretending to be playing, it was one of the most awful things I ever saw! |

| Hey Bernie, I think I saw the Pet Shop Boys on that same tour, I think it was the "Very" Tour. They had 4 dancers, two of each sex, which did some hot scenes on cages... first girls vs. guys, then girl vs. girl in one cage and guy vs. guy in the other! Also there was an acoustic version of "Rent". I thought it was a very good show, visually impressive (not just for that On the contrary, I remember a Beck gig one year ago... Quite dismal. The guy did so many styles and was so energetic nobody understood if it was tongue-in-cheek or not. On top of that, as a live performer he was awful! |

| Kraftwerk, Helsinki, c. 1995. They had these meticulous, ubermensch-looking dummies on stage that infiltrated and communicated by moving their arms slowly to the sounds like robotic Tai-Chi instructors. The effect was totally hypnotic. In July 1979 Roseland N.Y staged a huge Summer Night Disco special with Gary's Gang, Cissy Houston, Dan Hartman etc on stage, one act after another that spinned our heads. We waved our arms, sang along and danced like mad. |
