Default Saturday Night Fever dance floor for sale

Just received an e-mail from Christian, a site visitor who informed me that the original dance floor in the movie Saturday Night Fever will be going up for auction. He sent the following link:

Has anyone ever been to the club where SNF was filmed?

2001 Odyssey/Spectrum finally closed? Anyone know why?
That club has been THE fixture at 802 64'th St in Brooklyn for 30 - 35 years or more. Sad... Time marches on.

Amazing the floor has stood up this long.... You'd figured it would be broken down by wear and tear...

Yeah, I would think it's pretty beat up by this point in time. It's really amazing that that dance floor has been in constant use for almost 30 years. Say's a lot for the people who built it and the quality they put into it. I was hoping to make it down to Spectrum myself soon and boogie my way across that floor. Ain't gonna happen now, oh well...

If I owned a club and that floor would fit, I'd buy it. Bet it'll bring more than a 100 large at auction.

I've been working in front of a copy of that floor, in a club in my hometown where I was the regular DJ during -80 to-83. It was a good investment for the club owner. Also very fun to work with because you could actually draw people to the floor early in the evenings by working with the lights. Kind of a hypnotic effect ...

I don't remember how much he paid for it back then ... I think the value of the "original" is gone once you move it from the Spectrum.

Marc,

The agency that did my bookings for 10 years or so has such a floor in a rental facility, it was pretty expensive.
The mobile thing built with aluminum and perspex plates costed about $ 30.000 for 36 sq. meters :-(

This is how it looks :-)

Party on, Peter

The movie company paid $15,000.00 U.S. to have that dance floor installed in 2001 Odyssey in '77.
