This subject has been discussed before in great detail, not so long ago. Do a search and you should find it. |

| As Quinny says an often debated subject here. There is no doubt about Double Exposure being the first commercially available 12 inch (around April 1976, price $2.98!!) but as for the first promo, many say "Free Man" by South Shore Commission but some say "Dance, Dance, Dance" by Calhoun was even earlier. Whichever it was it was around mid 1975 so we are talking 30 years ago, and not surprisingly, many peoples memories are a bit fuzzy after all this time :D :D |

| This topic always resurfaces so do a search as some great discussions have taken place here over the years. Here are two of what many consider to be the earliest Disco 12 inchers: http://www.discomusic.com/records-more/3379_0_2_0_C/ http://www.discomusic.com/records-more/162_0_2_0_C/ http://www.discomusic.com/records-more/4212_0_2_150_C/

| Yeah i gotta agree...Double Exposure was the first. There are loads of later pressings of other tracks which were made much later but showing original release dates. I have Wade in the Water by Ramsey Lewis on 12" showing as 1964!!! No way was a 12" pressed then. DJ Boogie Badness (aka discofresh) |

| --- Thanks Bernie and all ---- - I did a search and found some great information...... from a thread titled "First 12" disco record " --Feb. 2, 2004 ..... didn't realize Tom Moulton can trace back to the very moment he created the 12" single .. accidentally .... a record called "SO MUCH FOR LOVE" by Moment Of Truth. It appears the consensus is that "Ten Per Cent " by Double Exposure was the first commercial single . ............ It would be very interesting to document each label's first 12" ....... has that been covered here ? .......... ------------------ I remember going into the Gramophone on Polk St. back then and there being at most a half row of these curious 12'' records ( I'd never seen them before) . Almost overnight it seemed , this new disco section exploded and began squeezing out the Broadway showtune area. |
