| Let me call this the Pauly awards (no, I don't have an ego  ) for 2004. I picked up lots of cds last year and I'm sure many of you have. Nominate what you feel was your best pickup last year. My pick easily goes to the 54 soundtrack, Volume 1. The reasons start with outstanding remastering done by Tommy Boy. While some tracks were not the full lengths available, the sound quality was excellent. I also liked the way they seemed to put the right songs together. Often times when you get compilation cds, they are slap dashed together. This was well thought out and put together. From the beginning with a soundclip from the movie to the closing song, Wishing On A Star. I already had just about every song on that cd already but one of our members here prompted me to buy it. Anyway if I were stuck on a tropical Island with Salma, Pina Coladas, and a big bed, that would be my cd of choice to have there. :D

| 2004 was a banner year for me as far as Disco CDs are concerned. Hard to narrow it down to one, but I'd say: Disco Connection 2 >>> http://www.discomusic.com/cds-more/2931_0_3_0_C/ Straight from the master tapes with a nice mix of hard to find 12"ers and the more usual fare.

| Well for me, both the "Pauly Award" and the "Quinnywontagree Award" goes to "The Kings Of Disco" by Directors Paris & Negro. It was a difficult choice though since I've found a lot of good stuff on CD. |

| Boy have I been adding CDs to my collection the past year in '04 and 05. I must say "Disco Connection, vol. 2" is among my most treasured. I also added the excellent "Alright! Black Dance Music From The Disco Era" my favorites being 'Sure Can't Go to the Moon' by CJ & Co, 'Sadie' by Joe Baatan, and 'Love Don't Come Easy' by New Jersey Connection. Also, "Peter Brown presents: Super Disco," which is really the 2 "Disco Juice" albums together, and "Funky Collector 17" with the first time release of Booker T's 'Don't Stop Your Love' 12" on CD. I currently have the new Salsoul releases on the way from Amazon, which look amazing. So I guess I can't narrow it down to one! :D |

| I've really enjoyed all the CDs others listed above, but my favorite for '04 has got to be "The Spirit of Philadelphia." It's got "Who Loves You" (The Joneses), "Stay With Me" (The Futures), "Look On the Good Side" (The Invitations), "Good For the Gander" (Jermaine Jackson), "Hurt So Bad" (Philly Devotions), "I Just Can't Say Goodbye" (Touch of Class), and "Will You Be Mine" (The Whispers). That Whispers track woke me up to their pre-Solar Records work and it is gorgeous. Then of course there's "Creme de la Creme," for more Philly love, with the stellar "Got To Get You Back" (Sons of Robin Stone)... |

| 2004 was a terrific music year for me too. The two volumes of the "54" were good buys, Cerrone's "Hysteria" is Great, R. Kelly's "Happy People" is a good one... :D |

| Best 2004 releases for me...(new stuff, not compilations) Regina Belle - Lazy Afternoon (Peak) This is the album I've been hoping she would do since she first appeared on the scene in the mid 80s. Produced by George Duke and featuring the cream of the crop in terms of jazz musicians, this album is too good for words. Regina's jazz reworking of for "For The Lover In You" has be be heard to be believed. Incognito - Adventures In Black Sunshine (Dome) It still amazes me how Bluey can keep up the quality after leading Incognito for 25 years. This band can do no wrong apparantly. This album marks the return of Maysa Leak...and that's not a bad thing! |

| The ''Star Funk'' series by Unidisk. That first came out in 1990s and totally more than 40 varieties released, I believe, but I noticed it recently so have gotten only around 5 ones.... Anyway the series includes many great rare tunes  |
