Is this gospel-disco week?

Disco songs with religious themes:

The Gospelaires of Dayton, O. - "God Helps Those Who Help Themselves"
Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes - "Prayin'"
Eddie Kendricks - "He's a Friend"
The Company - "Ooh, C'mon"
Roberta Kelly - "My Sweet Lord"
Roberta Kelly - "Oh, Happy Day"
Roberta Kelly - "To My Father's House"
Sylvester - "Sell My Soul"
Snowflake - "Joy to the World"
The Mistletoe Disco Band - "Hark! The Herald Angels Sing"

The b-side of KLF & Petula Clark: "Downtown", and on to "Baby Wants To Ride" - should offend any one who begins their day with a prayer.

I was escorted out from the Times Square headquarters of the Church of Scientolgy last week, after having inspected and photographed an apparatus on display in the lobby, a gadget straight out of a 50's sci-fi film or a Hubbard book used to meter your "sensitivity" or something equally absurd, and making a general nuisance of myself. A loop of Tom Cruise testifying was unreeling right next to the gizmo, while ghastly, clean-cut morons in McDonalds-style uniforms and early 60's haircuts guided tourists like me around an exhibit centering on inner peace. Should you pass this place by, do go in and accuse them of brainwashing the easily impressionable to part with their earnings, and of worldwide psychological terrorism. They won't be able to answer any of your questions sensibly, despite their no doubt exhaustive training - it's a laugh.

Jussi: When we met you the other weekend in NYC you looked like such a mild mannered person. Here you are getting thrown out of the Church of Scientolgy and causing all types of trouble :-)

Back on topic:

It's not just the easily impressionable who are vulnerable to Scientology... although by now almost everyone now knows that they're up to no good, so one would have to be rather naïve to go to them in the first place. But anyone who gets lured into their "seminars" is susceptible, as their techniques are very effective at breaking down rational thought processes. More worrisome are the other organizations that we don't hear about which use the same tactics on a much more subtle level (and thus hard to identify), such as Landmark Education. It's a common misconception that only weak-minded or foolish people fall for this stuff. The reality is that almost anyone can be reprogrammed if they don't realize what is going on. That is how these groups succeed -- their victims don't know what's hit them.

JussiK,

While you were there, photographing that thing and seeing the Tom Cruise testimonial, was John Travolta's "Let Her In" or "Whenever I'm Away From You" playing in the background? "Sandy" perhaps?

Once upon a time, the then-newly-ordained Reverend Adrian Donna Gaines (known to man as "Donna Summer") had put into the collection plate "I Believe In Jesus". Then she put in "He's A Rebel" and later, "Forgive Me".

Jussik, well done! Scientology is best portrayed in the film "Bowfinger" BTW. Strange, but only a few weeks ago I was clubbin' with some friends who are also big discofans and we asked ourselves if America had a Church Of Disco since there are so much religions over there and there even is a Church Of Elvis. Wouldn't that be great? And I don't mean Gospel-choirs (who are great) but real discovibes.

Ok, religion is a delicate theme. I'm sorry if I offended someone
