| I've recently seen some Russian CDs of Cerrone's stuff on GEMM & wondered if they are OK as I seem to remember some negative comments a while ago about Russian CDs. They have excellent feedback ratings by GEMM & I'm tempted to order as some of them are '2 on 1' CDs which I always feel are better value. |

| Don't buy inferior bootlegs when you can get the legit and better sounding CDs?

| Not all Russian CDs are bootlegs, obviously, but so many are! It's pretty much near impossible to tell which are legit and which are fake until you get them in your hot little hands. For example, BMG recently went bonkers in Russia and released so many catalog items at once, including 2-in-1 CDs and other formats the US would never typically see. As a rule though, if it's a "best of" release that seems to include WAY too many "bonus" cuts, it's probably bootleg. |

| When I was for the last time in Moscow about 2 years ago I saw many illegal cds regularly sold in the shops, so you should be careful before buying, and even buying from an authoritative site should not represent an absolute guarantee |

| Most of those "maid in russia" CDs for disco stuff are all horrable vinyl recordings on CDRs. The Alec R Costandinos stuff is a prime example. And the funny thing is...these CDs are not made in Russia, but actualy California  They done by some moron who makes his somewhat beat up vinyl into wav files then just burns em to Maxell colored CDR's and sells em as "special CDs issued to a special members only club" in Russia (which is obvious bullshit!). Nice art work though on em. I bought one once outta curiosity knowing it was a load of shit to investigate and goddd, worst shit I ever heard! I belive I made a warning post here a few years ago when I investigated this. But as stated, there are real Russian CDs out there of corse as any other country in the world. Just the disco stuff...chances are its this guy from California's B.S.

He usually sells his CD-Rs on eBay. Recently a Gregg Diamond CD-R he made sold for $106! Looking at the list of his recent auctions, he must be making thousands, if not tens of thousands, of dollars per month. The RIAA are going after people sharing a few hundred MP3s on P2P systems, but surely someone making a living out of piracy has got to be a more worthy target?

| Yep, right on the money, thats the guy. He's done Peter Jaques, Giorgio, you name it! He's also done stuff from his beat up vinyl thats legitly avalible on CD! :o Like Santa Esmeralda for instance which Hot Productions did their discography. If you go over to ebay and view this guy's feedback you'll also see the numorous amounts of bad feedback mixed in with his good feedback..and they all say about the horrable quality. Avoid like the plauge!

| Interesting....I live in Brooklyn and there are a ton of Russian CD stores by me. I never investigated them but I was always aware that these stores cared bootlegs which really looked like real cds because of the artwork and the silver coded cd. I never really looked at the disco section if they had one but I am tempted to go look. |

| I received the Russian CD today of Cerrone's first 2 LPs (both on one CD) ordered through GEMM & I'm really pleased with it. The quality is excellent (both audio & packaging) & it's really good value. I wish I'd bought all of my Cerrone CDs in this format; they're much better quality than the Unidisc ones I've bought in the past. It's definitely not a CDR copy of vinyl, it's actually on Atlantic but much of the writing is in Russian. It's also the first time I've heard the naughty chat at the beginning of 'Love in C Minor'! :P |

The intro dialogue is on the Unidisc version of this CD as well... but they must've only had the US master for the album, and pasted the dialogue on from an old cassette copy. The sound is muffled and noisy until the first beat, at which point it goes much clearer (still bad EQ as per Unidisc, but better than many of their releases). |
