| I thought I read that Osko's Discotheque (where "TGIF" was filmed) was between Beverly & Third on maybe LaCienega--which would be where the Beverly Center (west side) or Beverly Connection (east side) are located. Anyhoo, it was gone by the time I moved here in 1984 and the Bev Center was relatively new and all the rage. (It's not anymore. It's all happenin' now at The Grove, baby...Fairfax & Third.) Now the Academy Library is further down LaCienega, south of Wilshire. I'm curious to know myself. :o

| :D I also liked this movie. Got it on tape and sometimes when I'm driving home on a Friday afternoon, I think of the beginning of the film where everyone is getting ready for the night. I too will be getting ready for tonight with some friends......Wish I could hear the Trash Disco though.... |

| Anyone who thinks Thank God Its Friday was a horrible movie obviously didn't watch it, at least in a good frame of mind. Its my all time Favorite movie and surprisingly it has stood the test of time.I watched it two weeks ago and still laughed. Where Saturday Night Fever was dark and a certain piont of view Thank God Its Friday was a comedy full of colorful characters.in SNF the gay guys got beat up on but in TGIF( where you saw men dancing with men and poppers)they were just another part of the scenery at the crazy disco called The Zoo much like real life.TGIF was also my introduction to Euro-Disco with Giorgio From Here To Eternity and Romeo and Juliet. Even Diana Ross and Thelma Houston got " uptempo!!! |

| Well, I have a bit of history with that place..Osko's..i used to work there!lol! it was definitely the place to be certain nights..the 4 dance floors & the cave..the cave..woo hoo, if those walls could talk! That was a groovy place, ya had to take an elevator down & the walls looked like the matterhorn at disneyland..all sparkley ice cavern-ish. I also went to the wrap party for TGIF, won the tickets on the radio, it was a blast! The last strange thing i'm sharing is that last year I went to a used book store to browse. i walked by a stack of old scripts on the floor. I picked up an ugly brown binder that was on the top of the pile & opened it. The title was "DISCO". i thought i scored on a cute little wierd disco thing for my collection, but i noticed it was signed by the writer, & written in pencil, it said TGIF. i skimmed thru it & realized it was the original script, not the finished version. i thought this was an awesome find & i'm proud to have it. it's part of the whole70's disoc culture, regardless that it was kind of cheesy..but hey, what disco queen didn't dream of winning a dance contest? & that 1 line that says it all..something to the effect of "disco is my life..everything else is bullshit"--the leatherman thanks for letting me share! happy disco dreams! :P |

The car wash used in the movie Car Wash was actually at 5th and Rampart (in one scene you can see the sign). That carwash was torn down in the late 90's and replaced with a strip mall. The hotdog stand in the shape of agiant hot dog, Tail Of The Pup, was on the spot where the Beverly Center now stands. There was a public uproar about knocking down the iconic hot dog stand so it was moved across the street to the north west corner of San Vicente and Beverly hidden behind the bank. The "Tail of the Pup" survived until about two years ago. Also, on Beverly just east of La Cienega was there the big club Odessey was located. |
