Yes, Yes, YES!! I used to have guys running up in the booth and doing 'wild things' to me when I played this. (And, NO, I didn't get 'that wild' in my booth. Don't want anyone to think I'm forcing my sexual agenda down your throat.

Yeah, I might choke.

To make matters a little more interesting this song exists as two different mixes. The promo version is a great remix, while the commercial is the original bla mix. Get the promo. I have this in the Vault under "F" for Foster.
to add to the info..Tod foster was "Disco Danny" from a Trident gum commercial, and started getting fan mail from this. Bobby Orlando was signed to Midsong under a writers contract..the two hooked up { both were 20 yrs old } and Bobby got Tod signed to Midsong..whereupon Bobby wrote and produced "Dancin" . I just picked up an Italian remake of Dancin" by "Joy Michael" produced by S.Lombardoni for Disco Magic records..probably from 1983 or so..and just ok.

I had this one also with the red and black jacket proudly proclaiming that it was "written" by Bobby O. It promptly was filed under "G" for garbage and tossed.

Didn't know about the "Disco" Trident thing.

Cheers for your comments mate. Much appreciated. As you can guess I like BLACK MUSIC across the whole sprectrum. Let me tell you how my love for Indie / Northern came about ..

I moved into London (Tooting actually) in 1984 from Tunbridge Wells in Kent after graduating. Becuase I was now in London, I had access to a far greater choice of black music that in I did in T Wells, obviously. I met a lot of cool guys who, between them were into Salsa (Steve), Ska (Mark), Northern Soul (Ossie), Seventies Funk (all of us), Indie soul (Phil). Living in Tooting, I soon discovered RECORD CORNER (Balham) 5 mins up the road and that is where IO bought my Indie soul records. It was then only a matter of time that I started gouing to Northern Soul gigs - the first being THE PHOENIX pub at Oxford Circus. On that first night, I heard the O'Jays with "I'll Never Forget You" - I WAS HOOKED!! I went into my local record store in Tooting and bought KENT FIFTY - with the O'Jays track on it! After that I used to on a regular basis to the 100 Club all-nighters, the Phoenix, but best of all, the Northern Soul sessions at the Alexandra on Clapham Common. I was just about to go up to my first all-nighter UP NORTH (Morecambe it was) when ... I met my wife-to-be (and that was that - I never went u North

And as for that GARLAND GREEN record - that it the best quality SOUL record I ever heard. It oozes class or what? It clutches at the depth of your S-O-U-L. The song is running through my brain as I write. "AIN'T IT GOOD ENOUGH? I HOPE IT WILL BE GOOD ENOUGH??" I will look out for JUST LOVING YOU.

And as for Tommy Tate - I went up to record Corner one day. I had already read a review of ther TT record. It was Number one in the record Corner chart and they had it in stock. A great soul and dance record!

One last observation - when I was 16 (1977) and into the disco thing, a couple of mates would get a train from T Wells to Wigan to go to the Casino every 2nd week (when they could afford it) and come back Sunday afternoon. My regret was - I should have gone with them ONCE but I never did Shame

My e-mail address is in my profile ...

Hi JAZZ,

thanx for the kind words about my list, but let me tell you, yours are the real thing! You have good taste, for sure. I have the PAULETTE REEVES' JAZZ FREAK and I like it a lot (very groovy, classy song). COOLIN' OUT by JERRY BUTLER is great too. and KEEP ON PUSHING LOVE by AL GREEN... it's fantastic. The album that contains this song, DON'T LOOK BACK, is great and deserved to be a huge hit. I wonder why AL GREEN didn't release another soul album after DON'T LOOK BACK (and its american edition).

About Dionne Warwick and the Detroit Spinners - Don't Need Another Love: I will look for this one, for sure.

Peace, JAZZ.

zeca azevedo
The Dionne Warwick /Spinners record was out in 2001 and I picked it up as a white label on http://www.hmv.co.uk. (Uk's largest record shop)Maybe they can still get you a copy. With the right marketing and with the name of Dionne Warwick in it, it should have been a massive summer soul hit. The record has a modern "garage" feel to it, but is 100% a great modern soul dancer. It came out as a double 12-inch with 8 mixes on it!! TOTALLY UNLABELLED!! It was played a lot on the London jazz station JazzFM. DEFINITELY worth picking up. In the middle of the record, there is an instrumental break, then a 2-second pause and then those SOULFUL harmonies kick in (very similar to the way they kick in in the AL GREEN record actually). It stirs the SOUL so much it makes you wanna cry !!!

Re PAULETTE REEVES - what label was it on?

Think you taste is SPOT ON as usual!!

Hey JAZZ,

let me tell you something: I'M A BIG BIG FANATIC NORTHERN SOUL FAN! One of my most cherished DREAMS is to go to a real NORTHERN gig. Here in Brasil soul DJs are playing lots of 70's and 80's records, great, lovely stuff - I'm a hardcore soul fan and I love all the different styles of SOUL MUSIC, but I miss some NORTHERN SOUL in my life. I have some KENT compilations on my record collection, but they are very expensive and hard to find for a brazilian soul lover.

Anyway, I know GARLAND GREEN and you're right on the spot: it's a classic, period. I began to listen to SOUL MUSIC thru 60's and 70's MOTOWN - for me, the 60's are the most fertile and rich period in the history of SOUL MUSIC. I grew up in the 70's, so there's zillions and trillions and billions of 70's SOUL songs that I could never ever live without, but when I hear some 60's soul - WOW. In my opinion, nothing can beat the CLASSIC 60'S MOTOWN and STAX SOUND. 60's SOUL is simply elegant, concise - in one word, essential. Here in my hood I know some guys who love music from the past decades only because it's the music they heard when they're kids. Of course we love music because it is connected with memories and emotions that we lived, but I think we can love music from a more abstract point of view - if we hear music from the past based only in our memories and the things we experimented whem we were young, I think we will never give a chance to BACH, BEETHOVEN and MOZART, uh? But I'm digressing now.

As much as I know, JAZZ FREAK was released on TK Records.

About DIONNE WARWICK & THE SPINNERS: I like their 70's records and I will look for this new release. I'm impressed that no one talked about this record before. I came to know that the record exists from your posts. Thank you, JAZZ.

Peace to us, JAZZ FREAKS

I have written down the details from the 12-inch for you:

It is DIONNE WARWICK and THE DETROIT SPINNERS and is titled "I Don't Need Another Love". It is on Arista Records and it also says One Step Music on the cover. The record number is OSMO 14P. The mix in question is the "Thieving Hoodlums Club mix" and is a glorious soulful dancer. Happily, the hmv.co.uk website I mentioned has it in stock for £5.49 (usd . Sorry, Bernie, neither Amazon or CD Now had it - I did look.

If any of the Senhores do Groove have access to a minidisc player, I will send an MD out to you (I did one last night) straight away and you can hear the song for yourself ..

This is a great topic as I can't stand dealing with people who only know what has been played on the radio. Here is my contribution to this already impressive list of obscure gems:

Just be true - Kool & The Gang
Just wanna make my dreams come true - Mass Production
Sexual Revolution - The Muscle Schoals Horns
Turn this mutha out - Idris Muhammad
Two hot for love - THP Orchestra
Hey Roots - Black Rock
Get ready for the future - The Winners
Space machine - The Fania All-Stars
Space Bass - Slick
Get up - Vernon Burch
Kay-Gee's Theme song - The Kay-Gee's

Hope this brings back some good memories for others as they do for me.

Easy,

Sam "ALL JAM"

Ok, Sammy pushed me to this topic. My list is filled with:

Archie Bell & The Drells - Tighten' Up At The Disco.
Norman Harris - Bright Eyes
Roberta Kelly - Oh Happy Day!
Gloria Gaynor - Casanova Brown
Al Hudson & The Partners - Happy Feet
Francine McGee - Delirium
Cameo - It's Serious
Grey & Hanks - Never Let You Down

Note: This list is discoish but, in fact I'm a funkateer.

Peace.

Blax:

I knew your list would be great. I should have put 'It's Serious' on my list as I love that record. Also, Archie Bell & The Drells, I love them; Especially their stuff from the late '60's, early '70's. Once again Blax, you came through like a thoroughbred with some gems.

Easy,

Thanx for the praise, Sammy. I'm a little embarassed with it. Thoroughbred, uh?

But, let's be fair. In this site nobody is a rookie.

P.S. I saw your list. Thoroughbred...me??
