It turns out that DJ amyaok has this track as the 4th song in the January 25, 2004 mix at http://www.deepvibes.org/mixes/amyaok/kmix0125a.htm But it won't let me hear that mix; I keep getting a server connection error! Can you get it to work?

look at the year-end Dance chart for 1990 and that should answer your question pretty quickly. I have 1989 but I guess I threw out 1990

I think it has more of the essential disco elements than Lisa Stand-still's track: "Love" is in the title, the 4/4 beat, a little change in tempo 3/4 of the way through, a strong female vocal, well used synth parts... |

This sounds like an impossible mission. Somebody who shall remain nameless doesn't seem too interested in parting ways with a $100 bill. How about this question? Find a rock song with the following rules: 1) It can not contain any guitars, either electric or acoustic. 2) It can not contain any drums. 3) It can not contain any bass. 4) It can not contain any vocals. 5) It must have been recorded on any date as long as it is February 30th of any given year. :D

Buckaroo: From what I just saw, "Lies" by Oval Emotion is from 1991, not 1990, though I'd be interested in hearing it anyway (can you send a clip?) and if it's disco I can offer some sort of smaller thank you gift on that too. According to Discogs.com, "Lies" came in 3 mixes: Classic Club Mix, Deadly Intro Pianopella Boom Mix, Jammin D.J. Dub. So do you nominate the "Classic Club Mix" then? Buckaroo: As far as your previous suggestion "Don't Hold Back on Love", it turns out that the "Absolute Dub Mix" doesn't qualify as disco, but that doesn't rule out the Original Mix which I haven't heard yet. Hey anonymous "Guest": want to talk about "nameless" you hypocrite, where's your registration here at DiscoMusic.com? And your attempt at a comparison is pathetic and insulting. For your information, my song search is very serious and the monetary compensation is very real. It's just that no song has qualified yet. It shouldn't be impossible, since there have been disco songs in every other year, so I would think 1990 would have at least one song too. Perhaps there's an Indian disco song from 1990; I asked a Finnish record dealer to search his inventory because he knows about late 1980s Indian disco. Unfortunately there's no other disco song on the Fragile on the Rocks album "Insoumise" from 1990 which I bought recently. Keep looking folks.

Passaro: The 30-second intro clips of Ed Motta's "What Would You Like?" and "Ed's Groove" are not disco and from what they sound like I doubt the remainder of those songs are disco either. On the other hand, that concert footage shows some very energetic disco type music, and Ed Motta's "Tem Espaço Na Van" from 2003 ( streaming sample at http://edmotta.calabashmusic.com/ ) qualifies for my 2003 disco listing. Thanks for the tip on Ed Motta; I'll look for some of his late 1990s music too. Apparently his 1996 "E Conexao Japeri" album has some relevant music. Have you heard that one? Passaro: if it helps to refer to your own music, here's how I'd explain things: "A Love Mystery" is disco while "It's Automatic" is not. My definition is not supposed to be hard for everyone to understand. Buckaroo: My email address is: discosavvy A@TT discosavvy DOTT com

Not sure I agree with all your criteria discosavvy... is "All Around The World" by Lisa Stansfield really 'Electro'? (I wouldn't call it 'Disco' either but anyway...) Anyway, here's a disco record from 1990. http://www.discomusic.com/records-more/8224_0_2_0_C/ But having had a look at the very confusing rules again, I suspect they are very, very flexible !

I got an email today from an interested person who had read this thread and was wondering if the contest is still on. The answer is YES, but since I don't visit this board much anymore it's better if you email me directly, rather than replying here or sending a PM. Some people still aren't paying attention to the rules and didn't read the list of songs that are already disqualified. "(Feel the) Love Magic (Love Magic 70's Disco Mix)" by John Davis & The Monster Orchestra (1990) is a remix of "Love Magic" which is already listed under 1979. Therefore its first release was 1979. "Grove is in the Heart" by Deee-Lite is not a disco track. I already ruled it out. This contest is based on *sound* not *content*. It's not enough that a song is a cover of a disco track, or is influenced by one. It has to sound disco itself. Jamiroquai's earliest tracks weren't disco, and the band was founded in 1992 - two years after the year of this contest. To monsieurwilly: What 1990 track by Incognito did you have in mind? I won't spend time looking for something that probably doesn't exist considering as you're not credible after having claimed Jamiroquai recorded a song in 1990. To Simon White: "Starting All Over Again" by Liz Lands is a song I haven't heard before and couldn't find a sample when I searched for one. But since it's produced and mixed by Ian Levine (whose forte is all-electronic music then and now), and this song is described as Hi-NRG on the Net, I doubt it meets the criteria. Feel free to prove me wrong on this one. Remember, I need a sound sample or a place where I can find one.
