While surfing through the cd single directory, I came across Firefly. For some reason the band appealed to me. While digging through my crates today I saw that I have Firefly - Love is coming on one of my disconet series. Since, I am not from this time, can anyone enlighten me on this band? Are they an underground-ish band that never gained popularity? Thanks so much!!

I assume you're talking about the Italian combo behind "Love is gonna be on your side", probably one of the best funky-disco recordings of all time. The only records I know of are the single mentioned in this site's database ("My desire" makes a decent side B) and a later LP called "3" (was ever a "2" record in between?). This "3" LP I never listened but I remember seeing it on stores, their cover being a drawing of a face/mask on pink over a yellow background, if I remember well. I also downloaded two other Firefly songs, "You can lead me" and "You make me happy", maybe they're from that "3" record. The first one is OK, but nothing comes close to their greatest hit, apparently. I'm sure Giovanni has more to say on the subject... Pronto, fratello!

Thank you Nano for calling me up! Vamos..... Firefly was a studio project conducted by Maurizio Cavalieri and Maurizio Sanguineto. They were active in Rome for the Mr Disc label (a cult label for the french boogie disco lovers) in the years 1981-1982. Their first 12" is "Love and friendship" , from 1981, later re-released in the US as "Love (is gonna be on your side)" on Emergency, a label that released a lot of italian stuff in those post disco years. All of their 3 albums are very sought after and their sound is very much like some other italian boogie stuff of the era.... Rainbow Team, Kano, Jimmy Ross, Ago, Vin Zee Maurizio Sanguineto later recorded a lot of italo stuff under the moniker Sangy, as you can easily check by many italian 12"s of the mid 80s, in which, contrary to the classic electronic italo disco style, the sound keep being more soulful and funky.
