I checked Leonard Maltin's Movie and Video Guide with regards to the "disco-themed" movies mentioned here thus far.

His worst of the bunch:

Thank God It's Friday!!!!

Rating: BOMB

"Perhaps the worst film ever to have won some kind of Oscar (for Summer's hit song, "Last Dance"), this one-night-in-the-life-of-a-disco comedy is about as monotonous and uninventive as disco music itself. (OUCH!!!) A must-see for morons, cast notwithstanding."

I've suffered through Can't Stop The Music, 54, Last Days of Disco and Saturday Night Fever. I thoroughly enjoyed Boogie Nights.

The big ZERO should go to Can't Stop The Music with Last Days... running a close second at 0.001. Dreadful doesn't begin to describe these films.

Hey Marky. I'm not sure how to take Maltin's review. Normally I ignore the movie critics because they try to shove the "English Patient" down my throat while they trash "Die Hard." My taste run completely the opposite. Having said that, "Thank God It's Friday" was bad but well, I've seen a lot worse (like "Best Defense").
I can't remember "Can't Stop The Music" but I'm sure I saw it. "Boogie Nights" was only memorable for me because of porn star Nina Hartley :D
Whatever happened to "Maestro"?

I personaly love TGIF, I find the humor in it as a great comedy with a great soundtrack..maybe not so great for a "disco" film, but I love the movie and its hillarious!

Can't Stop The Music I have to agree is by far the worst from the real disco era, following in at #2 by "Last Days Of Disco" which is bluntly pure modern day yuppie crapola! (not to mention a semi rip off of the "54" movie from the same period from what I can recall).

One movie that was reallllly bad but has a kick ass and ultra rare to get soundtrack (see my entry in the disco vault) is "Prom Night". A very made no sence slasher film with the disco dance sequences mixed in. Now off topic and to another topic on here...if ya wanna talk true rare pay out the ass records..this soundtrack is one of em.

I love TGIF! I own the VHS and watch it often - anxiously awaiting the DVD. Maltin's a tight ass and wouldn't know a good time if it fell outta the sky, sat on his face and fuckin' wiggled.

"Boogie Nights" is good but they miss a lot of the energy. Compare the dance scenes in that to the dance scenes in SNF they're good but not complete.

Certain movies are so bad that they're good. Like TGIF, and Roller Boogie, which had a great ST IMO. But others like Last Days of Disco, which porported to be an accurate depiction of an era, but actually featured a-holes pontificating about life in an unreal fashion, were just crap. I noticed that they even got basic stuff like the fashions and hairstyles wrong. Can't Stop The Music was supposed to be high camp, but is still watchable. It was let down by being too expensive, and too late.

You US guys, are fortunate not to know about the many dire UK disco movies like:
The World is Full of Married Men :-?
The Bitch :o
The Stud :(
and SNF rip-off The Music Machine. Eeeeek!

And after disco, there were the rap and electro movies. Remember:
Breakdance
Krush Groove
The Last Dragon

Those were great movies for young people living in a country like Belgium where X-rated movies were forbidden. They could be seen as highly educational :D :D :D And they have Joan Collins in them who was only 85 years old in the seventies

I saw both "The Bitch" and "The Stud" while stoned on my ass!

Joan Collins was hot and I remember one of 'em had a kick ass swiming pool scene.

I enjoyed them both (as cheesy as they were) and hope to see 'em both again. :D

Jimmy, let's talk about this.... you mean to tell me that you didn't even smile or tap your feet? :-?

As soon as THAT'S THE WAY (I LIKE IT) came on... it was on!!!!

It's gonna be really really hard to find a producer/director to make a good disco movie ....

oooooh!!!! I'm sure that if some of us put our heads together we could write one.... my only peave is that the music is in cronilogical order....

here's probably my reasoning.....

because i'm behind the turntables as per se....
and always thinking what am I gonna play next.... (by the way... i just finished 5 weekends in a row and made all kinds of $$$$$$ :P to pay for this
HIGH DEFINITION TV I bought a couple of months ago), I rarely get a chance to be surprised by what is played other than me... understand? however, if it was JAKKI's Sun, Sun, Sun I would've  my eyes just like that.....

2 X-mas ago they played Can't Stop The Music on NATIONAL TV here....it was crap lol!!!!

Anyway did anyone see "Goldmember"? Now the disco club scene (the club is called Studio 69) and all the roller boogie stuff and the music (KC & The Sunshine Band covers) just annoyed me lol and made me amd because they were distortioning DISCO, but like someone said in another thread that's the only way it sells to some uncultured youngsters...I must admit that when I was new into DISCO I found this type of stuff great but as I have been learning and getting involved with DISCO, something I never lived, I find this cheap...

I like 54 (the story's crap but I like the music and the Studio's jet set environment lol) and SNF too.

Last Days Of Disco, haven't seen it, but I have the sdtrk...seems like a poorly cheap made TV movie.

Voyage :P
