Default Last Night's Dance Music Hall of Fame Event... Photos Added

The Dance Music Hall of Fame hosted its first annual awards show last night (Sept 20, 2004) in New York. It was a blast with numerous Disco stars in attendance and performing live such as Martha Wash, Evelyn "Champagne" King, Fonda Rae, Kurtis Blow and others. Other notables such as Henry Stone, Vince Montana, Marty Angelo, Mel Cherin, Tom Silverman... were in attendance as well.

Henry Stone who founded TK Records and helped place KC and the Sunshine band on the map was awarded a lifetime achievement award to a huge applause.

Martha Wash had some very nice words on the passing of her friend Izora Armstead and a moment of silence was observed during the ceremonies.

All in all, it was a great and historic event with many in attendance.

I took a bunch of photos and I hope to have them up on the site soon so stay tuned.

Bernie, did it catch the real vibe? Was it broadcasted or taped for VH1?

Photos? GREAT :D

There was definitely a Disco vibe going on and everybody there was happy and proud to be a part of it all. Evelyn King, Fonda Rae, Kurtis Blow and others performed live to a backing track and were great. It should only get better each year.

While there was videotaping going on, I am not sure when and if they are going to air anything from the event. Perhaps VH1 will show portions of it soon.

I'm going through all the photos and hope to have them up very soon.

Pictures look great Bernie. I mean it. Everyone looks great. Randy Jones doesn't look like he's aged much. That's the first time I've seen Fonda. She looks sweet.
The girlfriend looks good. Knowing she's your girlfriend, does that mean I can't hit on her?
Who was spinning the records while you guys danced?

Paul,
Everybody looked great and were having a good time being together and just feeling appreciated. Many people looked as though they haven't aged much. Check out Evelyn King and some of the others...

Randy Jones didn't perform, but did one of the introductions and then started dancing with Evelyn as seen in the photo.

Kurtis Blow really got everyone going by singing "The Breaks" and having the crowd join in with him. Lots of fun!

Even Shahla who isn't a Disco freak was getting into the whole thing and had her photo taken with Kurtis and others. Heck she was gong around and talking to them as if she knew them all their lives. She especially found Martha Wash very sweet.

As for hitting on her, you can try, but she'll just keep your gears spinning :-)

As for who was DJing... several guest DJs did very short segments. John Luongo, DJ Jackie McCoy, DJ Pete Jones, Nicky Siano and Joey Carvello all had a shot. Heck, I'm looking forward to going again next year!

The event was video taped, although I have not seen the footage yet. We are picking it up on Friday.
