Default Max Berlin

Picked up a sealed EP entitled Max Berlin's Dream Disco. Can't find any information on this artist other than he is alleged to be the brother of Cerrone.I opened the record and played it.The first side is entiitled Dream Disco and runs for 11:03.It's an uptempo Cerrone style number featuring latin percussions and a pronounced horn section with a rock guitar accent. There is a small vocal element featuring a young boy speaking french to his dad interspersed throughout the number. The B side has two numbers Baby Dream a slow instrumental that would be appropriate for a french film soundtrack. The last number is entitled Nothing is a real uptempo instrumental that I find to be the best number.Again similar styling as the Dream Disco number. The record is on the the Malliigator label and is labeled "A Cerrone Production".Recorded June 1978 in Paris. Not a blockbuster by any means but a commendable disco offering.Cannot find much about this record or artist on the net.Does anyone have any further info?

You have found one of the enigmas of Eurodisco.

The record that you have is the 12" released on Malligator records, Cerrone's recordcompany.

But...Max Berlin is much more known here for his erotic track "Elle et moi (she and me)" which comes from the album "Elle et moi" that was released in 1978 on the Belgian Label USA IMPORT. That label has a shop in Antwerp and was owned at that time by José Pascual, who I knew very good since I was a regular client there. But José moved to Ibiza and we lost contact.

They told me that Max Berlin was connected to Marc Moulin, the producer of Telex. If he really was Cerrone's brother I don't know but he looks like him and the voice is similar. Maybe someone on the board can tell us.

"Elle et moi" is a classic over here. You can compare it to a Cerrone-rhythm but slowdowned and the lyrics and the singing is very similar to Gainsbourg.

The song was recently used on the soundtrack of the movie "Anyway the wind blows" directed by Tom Barman, leadsinger of Belgian group dEUS.
