Not really a big fan of the remix services, but the following come to mind:

Abba: Lay All Your Love (Disconet)
Ultravox: White China (Razor Maid)
Herb Alpert/Janet Jackson: Diamonds (Ultimix)

Hmmm, well since I don't have all that much on the Remix services...I was kinda shy to speak first, BUT...since Bernie mentioned the ABBA "Lay All your Love On Me", I second that nomination. Also, Robbie Leslie's remix of Jimmy Ruffin's "Hold On To My Love" (although it doesn't sound quite right when I play it now at home--a little off in the pitch area--someone help me--not sure how to describe it).

Oh, a Steve Thompson Dance Classics medley of early Disco Stuff is a fave: "Let's Groove"--Archie Bell & The Drells; "Dreaming A Dream" - Crown Heights Affair; "Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel"- Tavares; "Ten Percent" - Double Exposure; "Mighty High" - Mighty Clouds Of Joy; "Down To Love Town"- The Originals; "Free Man" - South Shore Commission; and "Lovin' Is Really My Game"- Brainstorm. All flawlessly great music, flawlessly mixed. Perfection!!!!! That is an all-time FAVE!!!!

Another good one is the Danae Jacovidis/At Midnight Medley:
"It Should Have Been Me" - Yvonne Fair
"It's A Shame" - The Spinners
"Take Off Your Makeup"- Lamont Dozier
"Dance Little Dreamer"- Bionic Boogie
"Why Can't We Live Together" - Timmy Thomas
"Rock Your Baby" - George McCrae
"Under The Influence Of Love" - Love Unlimited
"Pull Yourself Together" - Buddy Miles
"At Midnight" - T-Connection

I haven't listened to that for awhile--but the selection is great--can't remember how the mixing was. It reminds me of the John Ceglia Sleaze Mix recently played here.

Hot Tracks was from SF and I have more of that--let me check my stash.

More later.

Hmmm...well plowing through the Hot Tracks stuff the only title that seems Really Special to me is "Tomorrow" by The Edwin Hawkins Singers, a gospel track that Steve Algozino remixed & revved up into a Troc classic. At 134 BPM, this was a very pretty and uplifting uptempo track that fit in with the Roberta Kelly "Gettin' The Spirit" stuff. A little 3:00AM trip to CHURCH on the dance floor. They used to SCREAM for THIS ONE!!!! Remember, Keefe?

Did anyone else ever play this?????

As for Razormaid, the man behind that was S.F. DJ Joseph Watt who used to shop at Aloha and buy all the New Wavey stuff. He played at a stand-up bar on Haight Street, if I remember correctly. What intrigued me about him was that his "Thing" was mixing songs in the same keys or in compatible keys or something that I didn't really understand--but seemed real "heavy" at the time.

Later, what to my surprise should I see but Mr Watt's name as a remixer on stuff commercially released by Depeche Mode etc. I was most impressed.

I saw something from him on the internet not too long ago--he resides in Arizona, I think. Is Razormaid still a force in the business or in business at all? I think he said it was, in the post I read by him. I think it was a posting somewhere lamenting the sad state of music today . Quelle Surprise!!!!!

I have many favorites but what comes to mind at this late hour:

Just Can't Get Enough - Depeche Mode (Disconet)

Visitors - Abba (Hot Tracks)

Where Is My Man - Eartha Kitt (Hot Tracks)

I Beg Your Pardon - Kon Kan (Ultimix) Just for the reaction I got from my crowd when they threw in the Lynn Anderson vocals.

DJ BOZO,

I was just thinking about mentioning that Hot Tracks Remix of ABBA's "The Visitors"--I don't have it--or I certainly would have sent along a little praise for that one in my earlier post.

Anyone know where one could find that on a CD compilation, perhaps? Hey, Jeff had the ABBA "Lay All Your Love One Me" on a Disconet compilation CD--that I had heretofore only HEARD about--but NOW is IN MY COLLECTION!!! SO, therefore... I'm just askin'!!!!!

Hot Tracks released a 15th Anniversary box set a couple of years ago. 17 discs for $400 - they are selling it now for $250. (I bought it for I think $300 a few years ago since many of my originals walked or aren't in great shape and I wanted most of that stuff on CD anyway. A shame that my vinyl collection isn't totally intact as I was subscriber #21 when Hot Tracks debuted.)

Anywho, it's still available and you can now buy individual discs for $20 ea. The one with Abba - The Visitors has some other jewels as well. http://www.hottracks.com Disc 17 is also interesting - all medleys - Donna Summer, Prince, Pet Shop Boys, Ms. Jackson, etc.

Hot Tracks 15th Anniversary Disc 5
George Michaels “I WANT YOUR SEX”
Eartha Kitt “WHERE IS MY MAN”
Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam W/Full Force “CAN YOU FEEL THE BEAT”
Deniece Williams “LET’S HEAR IT FOR THE BOY”
Pat & Mick “USE IT UP & WEAR IT OUT '91”
Eurythmics “WOULD I LIE TO YOU”
Donna Summer “SHE WORKS HARD FOR THE MONEY”
Abba “THE VISITORS”
Zino “LOVIN’ IS REALLY MY GAME”

I have the Hot Tracks 25th anniversary collection. It has the Edwin Hawkin's song "Tomorrow" on there.

Haven't played it in a while.

My favorites have to be:
The Boss - Diana Ross (Ultimix)
So Many Men, So Little Time - Miquel Brown (Hot Tracks)
The Visitors - Abba (Hot Tracks)
LAYLOM - Abba (Disconet)
Tragedy - Bee Gees (DMC)

Of course, not a remix service Per Se, but I always liked the Ben Liebrand year end medleys.

Not really 'Disco' but an '80's' Dance/Wave cut. 'Two Tribes' by Frankie Goes To Hollywood on the 'Hot Tracks' remix service. The mix was great, didn't ruin the original 12" mix but added alot of fun and style (if you can say 'fun) to a song about the end of the world!

I used to sample Disconets before buying at my local Record Pool, many of them were to Lame for me to lay any $$ for them, I have a few others in my collection but here are some of the ones I consider to be among the best.

Love Attack – Ferrara
Remember me /ain’t no mountain- Boystown Gang/Cynthia Manley
Heatstroke - Man Parrish
Party Boys – Foxy (very good one)
Breaking up – Roni Griffith
Set Me Free – Three Degrees

My favorites that I was able to play for years.
Hold on to my Love- Jimmy Ruffin
Lay all your love – ABBA
Stormy Weather- Viola Wills
And my # 1 pick, “If you could read my mind” - Viola Wills
