While I like this song, I just found it way too long-especially the Disconet version.

Agreed, Bernie. And likewise for Disconet's remix of Sharon Redd's "In the Name of Love." (It was a Disconet remix, wasn't it?) One of my all-time favorite dance tunes, with some lovely instrumental breaks added to the remix--but gawd, does that sucker go on...!

Yes, there is both a Disconet and a Hot Tracks mix.

I like the Disconet although it is looong.

Hmmm...well plowing through the Hot Tracks stuff the only title that seems Really Special to me is "Tomorrow" by The Edwin Hawkins Singers, a gospel track that Steve Algozino remixed & revved up into a Troc classic. At 134 BPM, this was a very pretty and uplifting uptempo track that fit in with the Roberta Kelly "Gettin' The Spirit" stuff. A little 3:00AM trip to CHURCH on the dance floor. They used to SCREAM for THIS ONE!!!! Remember, Keefe?

Did anyone else ever play this?????
Of course I remember, Mark! However, didn't we used to hear the stuff even later than 3 a.m.? I seemed to recall the sun pouring in the skylight and one of our pals, Vicky, saying on Sunday morning, "Well, now I can tell my Mom I went to church today!"

Well, I dug through my collection (at home!) and found the Hot Tracks remix of "In the Name of Love" at 7:20 and the Disconet remix at 11:04!

The original Hot Tracks remix of "In The Name Of Love" is 9:12 remixed by Greg Silvia & Steve Bourasa, published on Hot Tracks Series 1, Issue 9.
The 7:20 version is a Re-Edit of the Remix-Version from Steve Bourasa for Hot Tracks.

This 'thread' got me lookin' through my 'Remix Service' bins and I discovered one that I had forgotten about. Most 'DJ Service' medleys are just 'bits and pieces' mixed over a 'beat'. 'Hot Tracks' did one that I loved call 'Looking Through Looking Glass' medley. It incorperated Earth, Wind and Fire's (with the Emotions) 'Boogie Wonderland' and throughout the entire song the dj artfully slipped in a bit of Disco Classics. That medley sure brought back alot of wonderful memories.

You'll have to forgive my ignorance on a lot of subjects since the only way for me to learn about music, music terminology and related things are from reading magazines and the forum. I am going through all the threads (almost a 100!) to avoid creating news ones before I start overflowing you with new threads hahaha.
So, my question is: what were/are these remix services, I mean how do they work, did they ask permission to remix some of the new tracks and release them on their own label? I never see these mixes where I read official discographies.
I guess each of those companies had a team of mixers who got assigned to do the tracks? How were these mixers usually regarded in the industry? I personally have only one of these 12", the "Love Pains" by Yvonne Elliman and even though I love the extension, I feel it lacks some of the bassline or it's like it's always "an intro" cause the last time I heard it it was like that, like the mix never got into the song really.
Thanks and merry xmas to you all

While we are talking remix services, DMC (Disco mix club) have done some stonking mixes of thier own;

Trammps 'Disco inferno'
Billie Ray Martin 'Your loving arms' (Brothers in Rhythm)
Gerri Halliwell/Weather girls 'It's raining men' over the rhythm of 'The bongo song'!! (I know its old hat but useful).
Sunscreem 'Perfect motion'
Spandau Ballet 'Gold/True' (dance mixes of)
Olivia/ELO 'Xanadu' (this is especially good in a cheesy way!).

My fav Hot tracks/Disconet;

Eurythmics 'Love is stranger' (Hot tracks) Much longer!
Abba 'The visitors' (Hot tracks) ditto.
Forrest 'Rock the boat' (Hot tracks)
Kim Carnes 'Invitation to dance' (Disconet)
Psychedelic Furs 'Heartbeat' (Disconet)
EBTG 'Missing' (Hot tracks) easier to use!!!

I'm not too familiar with remix service releases, but the ABBA - "
"Lay All Your Love On Me" Disconet remix is probably my favourite. It's pretty impressive since it didn't seem like they had the actual multitracks to work with... As if I remember something about ABBA suing them over that remix.. Too bad, I would have loved to hear extended mixes of many of their songs; they didn't do nearly enough of them..

Another one is, I believe, a Disconet remix of Cher's "Take Me Home" that I heard a few years back.. It gave it sort of a Salsoul feel which I thought was pretty nice..

Default Best remix service

Lots of talk about Hot tracks and Disconet. As far as i know they have never used the original master tapes for their mixes. They might have done some great mixes, but usually they are using existing mixes and cut them as they like or re-edit them. The accapella version is a really good thing to have for these services.

However, Im from Sweden, and the absolutely best remix service i have ever joined was SWEMIX (not existing anymore). It might sound strange for some of you and most of you have never heard about it. One of the re-mix producers was Denniz Pop (Dag Volle). He died in cancer a couple a years ago. He produced songs for Dr Alban, Ace Of Base, Backstreet Boys, Five, E-Type, Robyn among many other artists. Max Martin is now following up his great work.

Back to Swe Mix. It was a hell of a mix service. Almost impossible to be a member of it and yes... He mostley worked from the master tapes. Have you ever heard the version of Michal Jacksons Billie Jean when the tempo goes down in the middle and then back to normal again? If yes (it exists on many bootlegs) then that version apeard on SweMix from the beginning.

My favurites is mixed by Denniz Pop, and they exists on a limited edition vinyl called Denniz PoP's - Greatest Remixes

Michael Jackson
"Billie Jean"

Human League
"Don't you want me"

Soul II Soul
"Keep on movin'"

S.O.S Band
"Just be good to me"

Kraze
"Let's play house"

PS: DMC was also a very good DJ service when Ben Liebrand (king of medleys and mixing) and Dakeyne and more where mixing. It's bad quallity of DJ services these days and i have also tried X-Mix Ultimix, but they are not that good. They are for sure not using any master tapes.

Regards / Magnus from Sweden

Agreed Magnus, DMC can go off at a bit of a tangent sometimes but they do come out with some corkers as listed above.
