Among others, these are some tracks I listened to this evening on an old live DJ tape of mine:

Surface - Falling in Love A biggie in the UK. Soulful funky disco with a sorta 'Forget Me Nots' single piccicato type of sound on every beat. Yeah, it was obvious to mix the two and I did.
O'Jays - Put Our Heads Together One of their best ever for my money. The venerable O'Jays with what was an up to the minute funky, bass synth driven, uplifting song. Really liked this record BITD. Should have been bigger than it was.
Jazzy D - Get On Up This was the type of record that kept me happy as a DJ. Good funky sound, happy lyrics.
Crown Heights Affair - Rock The World Again, one of their best IMO, but not to be seen on CD, so far as I know.
Patrick Gammon - Do My Ditty Can't tell you anything about this record, except it used to go down fairly well.
Lady M - Please Don't Break My Heart Quite an endearing soulful disco record that I probably didn't play enough. To be perfectly honest, I'd entirely forgotten this record.
Tom Browne - Rockin' Radio I really liked this record, as at the time, it was a tad different, especially for Tom Browne. Solid enough without being spectacular.
Sharon redd - Beat The Street (instr) A true classic and soooo damned hard 'n' funky.

Here we go :D

- Junior Jack: "Stupidisco" 'I don't like the title but it's a killertrack from one of Belgium's best producers. (And Bernie, Paul: check out that video!)

- Foxy: "Mademoiselle" Less-known then "Get off" but a great record!

- ORS: "Moonboots" Mmmmh-boots!

- Bigfoot: "Watch your step" Sounds like a Disco-TV-tune

- La Pregunta: "Shangri-La" Ooh-ah Shangri-La

- Rare Pleasure: "Let me down easy" David Morales likes this one too :D

- Was (Not Was): "Wheel me out" So Bizarre-so good

- James Brown: "Stone to the bone" Oh yeah

- Charles Earland: "Coming to you live" Jazzy goody

- Queen Samantha: "Give me action" Always love that 1

- Cut La Roc: "Freeez" Terror on the dancefloor.

I have a feeling that next week will be Eurodisco-week

:D

Right now I'm listening to Miss Ross' Diana CD. "Friend To Friend" is on right now. I just started playing the CD, but I also like the original "Chic" version with the bass overlays.

A couple of big tracks for me this week:

Esther Phillips - I'll Be Your Pleasure - finally managed to get my hands on that one! :D A big singalong disco favourite!

Lonnie Liston Smith - Journey Into Love - another one I picked up recently. Absolutely love his dreamy mystical jazzy style ....

Recently, thanks to the influence of our very own Z-man, Zeca, I've been listening to a lot of Sixties Soul and Jazz - including, amongst others, some Jackie Wilson, Garnet Mimms, Garland Green, Nancy Wilson, Georgie Fame .....

BTW Videoskoooter - I happen to have brought a CD into work with that Rare Pleasure track you mentioned. Time to give it a spin, m'thinks..... According to the sleeve notes, it was big at the Blackpool Mecca .....

:)

Default We don't just stick a record in around here and let it play.

My wife's watching the TV in my home office. Complains that it's lonely downstairs where the wide-screen is. Cued into the Hard-Drive thingamajig attached to the PC and the stereo system is just a bunch of songs off of new records that I loaded into it. I'm about tired now of watching "Lifetime" ("television for women")

Movin' Out (Anthony's Song) - Billy Joel

Now wifey's nonplussed - she says "Can't you play that downstairs?" -- push the button, speakers downstairs start to play

Indian Giver - First Choice
Victim - Candi Staton
Do Ya Wanna Funk - Sylvester (Live Version from "Living Proof"
Come Rain or Come Shine - B.B. King and Eric Clapton
Come Rain or Come Shine - Judy Garland
Come Rain or Come Shine - Frank Sinatra
Come Rain or Come Shine - Myself and The Bill Holloman Quartet
Come Rain or Come Shine - Billie Holiday

Now I go upstairs and realize I made a mistake and the damn CD Computer thing's gonna keep playin' Come Rain or Come Shine until it runs out of titles like that, then it'll probably play "Come on a' My House" by Rosie Clooney or "It's Raining Men" by the Weather Girls -- so f*cking much for technology. Now, I want to go to bed, but the maid has awakened and walks all the way across the house and says in her broken English (she's Chinese) "You play the time you sing with band. I love when you sing with band. Can you play more when you sing with band? I hand her the CD with myself, and "Big" Al Wilson, Ordell McCoy, Sam Kimble, Theresa Wright, Brad Rickert, and "The Distinguished Gentlemen," (who were neither) from my last birthday party and go upstairs.

"Honey, how do I make it play that lady that I like?" - wifey's wide awake.
"Just type in Barbra S and click on Search and Play"

I am awakened the next morning to my wife, and the maid, and my wife's sister, discoing down in my office, right next to my bedroom, to:

Enough is Enough - Barbara Streisand
How do You Keep The Music Playing? - Barbara Streisand (from her latest - "The Movie Album" - and not bad; she uses an enormous amount of restraint) - by now all three women are engaged in this big enormous hug and trying to find Kleenex. And my coffee's not yet made.
Moon River - Barbara Streisand (also "Movie Album")

Fuck Technology. I got in the car and went out for breakfast. When I got back, somehow, my wife had loaded a CD with the maid's Chinese romantic music into my computer and really, really screwed it up. How can I delete selections when I can't type in Chinese? Oh, my God!! If I give you my address will you come over here and shoot me. I have a loaded 9mm that's very accurate -- a piece of cake -- just put me out of my misery.

Just kidding.

The whole month on my cd player:

SWING OUT SISTER's new album WHERE OUR LOVE GROWS.

It was described as a Motown Lounge album. It features some soul and pop songs with a (very) retro feel, throwing you back to the beginning of the 70's. The songs are packed with soaring backing vocal harmonies, full of lush orchestrations and brass. CORINNE DREWERY, the lead vocalist is at the height of her singing.

They may not be under the spots anymore, but that's just because they record good music, which may not be marketable. It doesn't have a "modern design" like Beyonce's.

Captain Zorro (Biddu): Phantasm - big production symphonic boogie version of the 1979 horror hit, pressed "on blood spattered vinyl".
Menage: Alien - another horror fave gets the disco treatment, also from 1979, masses of strings on MCA 12-incher.
Pop Concerto Orchestra: Carmen Brasilia - bizarro bongos&synths treatment of the opera tune.
Manhattan Express: Bad Girl (Mala Femmina) - cheesy rhumba disco from 1976.
Dschinghis Khan: Moskau - improved (?) and elongated 7'40" 12-" version, with more of everything and sung in German for maximum effect.
Clamaran: Feel It
Hatiras: Money Shot - a couple of new tracks
