latin disco

hi,

i'm a big fan of latin disco music.
some of my favorite tunes are the whole charanga 76 12" with all these disco remakes, two man sound and the afro cuban band.
music trance by charnaga 76 is my all time favorite with somethings gotta gove by the afro cuban band.

my question is, i can hardly find similiar groups tunes, especially latin disco that is "identical" to the ones a named before.
portugiese/spanish fast disco tracks. i'm not talking about the salsa stuff.

so does anyone can name me a few tracks like the charanga 76 stuff or two man sound that is really worth listening latin disco stuff?

A couple you may want to check out are Louis Ramirez's super-tough version of 'Do It Anyway You Wanna' (1976), which was reissued on 'Disco Spectrum, Volume 2'.

Inner City Jam Band's 'Mambotique' on Bareback is excellent.

Also, look out for Jose De Jesus's version of Kleeer's 'Get Tough', from 1981. It's sung in Spanish and is a crazy version.

I'm not sure what kind of latin disco you're looking for, if you mean latin pop singers doing disco, here's a list of some famous latin singers who did disco:

Anexo 3 (Puerto Rican pop group) did two disco songs "Callate ya no me mientas" and "No morire, yo seguire" (spanish version of I will survive) from the "Regresa" lp 1979.
Angela Carrasco (ballad singer From Dominican Republic) "No quiero bajar de mi nube", "Ibiza" from her selftitled 1979 lp.
Whilly Chirino (Cuban salsa singer) "Anorandote, extranandote" and "Honky funk" from the "Diferente" 1980 lp.
Camilo Sesto (Ballad singer from spain) "Samba" from the 1980 "Amaneciendo" LP also two songs song in english "Angela" from the 1977 "Sentimientos" lp and "Come, come again" from the 1979 "Horas de amor" lp.
Julio Iglesias "Un dia tu un dia yo" and "Quiereme" from the 1978 "Emociones" lp

Most of these are hard to find and haven't been released on cd.

Pedro Marin from Madrid had several disco tracks out during the late 70's, kind of speeded up Santa Esmeralda-meets-Costandinos kind of affairs with lyrics sung in Spanish. "Puerta de Colores" is probably the best, a fast flying galloper with full orchestral backing plus chanting girls of course.
Spanish stuff I've recently bought include Los Lobos: Disco De Sol and Esmeralda's (sic) disco version of Quando Calienta El Sol. Both of those contain more Cheese&Sangria than fiery Salsa, though, and must have been big in Torremolinos c. 1977.

Well, some fellas here know how I hate Two Man Sound but if you like it, their biggest hit down here was "Disco Samba", a long medley of Brazilian songs over an almost-disco beat. Still a huge hit on marriage parties. :evil: This came out around 1978.
Now, if you don't want Tito Puente doing discoteca, nor Camilo Sesto (where's the face for vomiting? :o ) trying to sound funny, maybe you want some fine Latin acts doing disco-like records. Offa the top of my head:

-JOE BATAAN - "Mestizo" (Salsoul-NY)
-GIBSON BROTHERS - "Cuba", "Mariana", "Dancin' the mambo", "Qué será mi vida" (Martinica)
-PERUCHO CONDE - "La cotorra criolla" (Venezuela)
-GRETCHEN - this Brazilian lady cut some disco records
-TIM MAIA - hugely revered in Brazil
-RITA LEE - "Lanzaperfume" (Brazil)
-BARRABAS - "On the road again" (Spain)
-SANTA ESMERALDA & LEROY GOMEZ - "Don't let me be misunderstood"
-SANTA ESMERALDA & JIMMY GOINGS - "Another cha cha"

Some acts did Spanish versions of their hits, like KOOL & THE GANG ("Celebremos"), FRANCE JOLI ("Ya verás que lo haré") and ABBA ("Chiquitita").

i forgot the gibson brothers. que sera mi vida is probably one of the best 80ies stuff and never gets boring, although it had heavy chart rotation.

david shire's salsation is also a pure classic.

two man sounnd are not that great, disco samba is pretty good i think, because it has all these classic latin hits in it.
but que tal america has an awesome bass/guitarline, even if you hate them, this song is a reason to think twice.

so keep latin disco songs coming!

btw: i find nothing comparable to chranga 76 - music trance or is it just me? just like something's gotta give by afro cuban band, another taste of honey - boogie oogie oogie, crown heights affair - far out, gibson brothers - que sera mi vida...awesome songs. what you think?

check the gibson brothers, "que sera mi vida" is the best, then comes "cuba", "mariana".
also "oh what a life", "better do it salsa", "silver nights" and "my hearts beating wild (tic tac)" are hot!

these france based trio really made some hot dance tune sin the early 80ies.

watch out! there's another group, also called gibson brothers, but totally different accustic guitar style. :o

Check out Miami Sound Machine’s 1989 ‘Imported’ LP, it has a very nice version of “For once in my Life” very similar to what you want.
