Well Blaxman you were right. I definitely dig Zeca's playlist. Especially 'Under your spell' by Phyllis Hyman. I love Phyllis Hyman and I love that song which doesn't get the recognition because it was on the same LP with 'You know how to love me' which I also love. Also, Zeca I love Janet Jackson so you had me hooked there. It appears you are partial to female singers, am I right in that assumption? If so, how do you feel about Angela Bofill who is my all-time favorite female singer. By the way, I checked out your website and the pictures of the party. Wish I was there as it looked like alot of fun. Even though the text was in Portugese I could translate most of it because of the similarities to the spanish language which I am fluent in. Zeca and Blax you guys have a great thing going with Senshores de Groove; Maybe I can be a long distance honorary member (Haha...Smile). Anyway, I play the happy hour tonight so let me see what memories I can stir with this week's playlist. Stay tuned!

Easy,

By the way Jazz, in response to some other Mass Production LP's and or songs you may want to check out:

"Three miles high" featuring a slammin' funk jam entitled 'Just wanna make my dreams come true'.

"Masterpiece" featuring two tracks entitled 'Angel' and 'Nature lover'.

Then their is the LP released between these two, the name escpaes me, but it featured their most popular and succesful track 'Firecracker'. I think I'll feature some Mass Production in this week's happy hour.

Easy,

Sam "ALL JAM"

Sorry I didn't get back to you guys earlier, but it's been kinda busy at work today. We've got a long weekend in England  due to the good ol' Queen !!! And I was watching France v Senegal... What a result!
Anyway, here I am..

First of all, Blax, it's nice to see your friends online! Welcome along, Zeca!! Any friend of Blax is a friend of mine!! And of course, I agree with Sammy - definitely got good taste!!

I remember that Phyllis Hyman record "Under Your Spell". I first heard it on my favourite soul radio show - I remember that because it was the first new record I heard in the 1980's and I recall thinking: "Wow! The 1980's!! Soul music still alive in the '80's! We're really moving on!!"

I had a look at your website - marvellous. You lot certainly know how to have a good time!! I would love to have been there as well !! Nice to know that THE MUSIC is alive and well in the land of THE COPACABANA!!

Can I be your second honorary member?? PLEASE??? And I'll tell you what, Blax and Sammy, IN RETURN - you would have certainly fitted in very nicely with my friends in the JAZZ PILGRIMS back in the Seventies. With your knowledge of the music and obvious partying know-how... Consider yourself honorary JAZZ PILGRIMS!!!!!!

Sammy, thanks for your excellent advice re the "missing" Mass Production LPs. Question for you - when they turned up in the Seventies, did people say "Huh! They're just a copy of Brass Construction!" ?? But I think you are right - they are certailnly underrated and a fine group in their own right! I get the feeling that's what people thought of them ..

I am actually making a list of all your recommendations. Man, I'm gonna be broke!!!

Hey, Blax, - if you have a minidisc player - I'll put the 2 Lps that I have on MD and send them to you - let me know. That will cheer you up!!

TGIF!! Y-E-A-H-H-H!! Especially as we have a long weekend !!!

Well, bye for now! Off to continue the Friday nite party!!!

PS Do you think Bernie should give us our own section??? (ENGLISH SENSE OF HUMOUR)

Hi friends,

it's an honor for me to be a part of this forum about music. This is a lovely way to make some new friends. Music is universal, for sure - see how many people around the world are sending posts to this forum. It's great to be a part of this "family".

SAMMY and JAZZ, you're welcome to join our group and to play on our parties. I know BRASIL is far away form where you live, but hey, who knows?, someday you can be here with us, visiting our country. My dear friend BLAXMAN (who told me about this wonderful site and forum) described our group and our activities very well. In the last 3 years, I made some REAL friends simply because we all love music. The 7 guys of the group are some of the best friends I have today, and I'm sure that our friendship will last, as much as our outstanding love for music.

About my set list: I love all the songs I played that night, but I'm more a SOUL DJ than a DISCO DJ. I grew up listening to SOUL, FUNK, DISCO, ROCK and BRAZILIAN POPULAR MUSIC and all these musical genres are important to me, but my favorite is SOUL MUSIC. I LOVE and I LIVE classic SOUL MUSIC everyday. I'm into 60' and 70's MOTOWN, STAX/VOLT, HOT WAX/INVICTUS,HI RECORDS, PHILADELPHIA INTERNATIONAL, BLAXPLOITATION soundtracks and 60's and 70's funk (JAMES BROWN and his disciples). What I dig about DISCO: I love BLACK DISCO MUSIC. I enjoy some of the EURODISCO stuff, but is not my preference. Anyway, I played those songs on the party just to surprise my friends (you should see BLAXMAN's face when I began to play!). Well, I had lots of fun, as always.

About MASS PRODUCTION: SAMMY, I have the album you missed: it is called IN THE PUREST FORM and here's the song list:
SIDE ONE
- FIRECRACKER
- LOVE YOU
- WITH PLEASURE
- OUR THOUGHT (PURITY)

SIDE TWO
- CAN'T YOU SEE I'M FIRED UP
- EYEBALLIN'
- NEXT YEAR
- STROLLIN'

It is the only MASS PRODUCTION album I possess and I like it veeery much. It's pure funk music for funk fans like myself and my friend BLAXMAN, and you, of course.

Thank you friends. Let's keep in touch.
Peace (paz)

Oh, just one more thing: I forgot to say something about ANGELA BOFFILL: great singer, beautiful lady! Her version of THIS TIME I'LL BE SWEETER is beautiful!

Dear friend Jazz, as said by Zeca, you're welcome to our "brotherhood".

I'm very proud to be a Jazz_Pilgrim too!!! It's my first international prize!!

Bernie give to us an entire section?
Lovely idea!!!!

Jazz.......I really apreciate the MD offer. I'm very touched, very kind idea! But, saddly, I dont have MD player (in Brazil this one is not much popular equipment)

Anyway, I have a CD home recorder and I can make some CD's for you, it would be my pleasure. Just e-mail me to gimme the adress and if you prefer, your phone number. We can try (I said TRY) to talk about it.

Take care friend,

Blaxman

Well guys,
I was a DJ on that party too and my selection was far away from the funky stuff BLAXMAN played. Here's the set list:

- PHYLLIS HYMAN: UNDER YOUR SPELL
- MARY J BLIGE: FAMILY AFFAIR
- EN VOGUE: MY LOVIN'
- WHITNEY HOUSTON: STEP BY STEP
- JANET JACKSON: TOGETHER AGAIN
- DIANA ROSS: NOT OVER YOU YET
- NATALIE COLE: LIVIN' FOR LOVE

At the very end of the party, when most of the people were gone, I played some slow songs like INVISIBLE by ALISON MOYET and...

Hey Zeca,

MY FEET definitely would have been dancing at your party!!!!!!!!

I like ALL your selections.

Dear MARKY,

it's nice to talk to you. Thanx for the kind words about my choice of songs. I've picked some well known songs to warm up the "crowd", since I was the 1st DJ to play on that wonderful party. When I was at the party, I forgot to play a song that I wanted to spin so much: the groovy rendition of WISHING ON A STAR recorded by RANDY CRAWFORD. Do you know this recording? It deserved to be a hit, for sure.

Tell me your selections for a WARM UP set list!

Let's keep in touch.
Peace (paz)

Hey,

I DO KNOW the Randy Crawford version of "Wishing On A Star". I love Miss Randy--I've never seen anyone else mention this cut. I just have the version on her "Randy, Randi, Randee" CD. Was there a remix? IF there was, I'd probably be afraid to listen, since the remixes tend to ruin the songs nowadays. But that's another story.

For some ideas on warm-up tunes, check the thread about the John Ceglia sleaze mix that nrgbeat started. I typed a whole lotta tunes that would be perfect for warm-up or cool-down--and nrgbeat, Nicky and John Ceglia himself also added to the list. It's pretty comprehensive, although NOT everything.

I LOVE those Ladies of Soul/Jazzy R&B, BTW: (Randy, Patti Austin, Phyllis Hyman, Diana Ross, Angela Bofill, Chaka Khan, Jean Carn, Deniece Williams, Stephanie Mills, Gladys Knight, Aretha, Natalie Cole, Linda Clifford, Donna Summer, and all the others). From your playlist I would guess you do also.

Take care.

Hey MARKY,

the version of WISHING ON A STAR by RANDY CRAWFORD that I mentioned is the same you have - is on the album "Every Kind of Mood: Randy, Randi, Randee" released in 1998. Miss CRAWFORD is an amazing singer. I think that her recording of WISHING ON A STAR deserved to be a dancefloor hit. It is an underrated recording probably because people don't think about RANDY CRAWFORD as a DISCO DIVA. I don't know if there is a remix out there, but I agree with you, a bad remix can destroy a great song.

About the WARM UP thing, I'll check your recommendations.

About the LADIES OF SOUL: I'm a BIG fan of the ladies you've mentioned and I like to add more names to the list: PATTI LABELLE, BETTY WRIGHT, CANDI STATON, DENIECE WILLIAMS, GLORIA JONES (do you know her classic DISCO song, "BRING ON THE LOVE"?), GWEN MCCRAE, LINDA LEWIS, LOLEATTA HOLLOWAY, LYN COLLINS, MINNIE RIPERTON, MILLIE JACKSON, ZULEMA, ANN PEEBLES, YVONNE FAIR...
The list seems endless!

I love girl groups too! Recently I've bought a comp by HONEY CONE, a 2 CD that contains all their HOT WAX recordings. Amazing stuff!

Peace (paz)

"Wishing On A Star"
"Give Me The Night"
"The Glow Of Love" and some other cuts off that terrific "Naked & True" CD.

Blax and Jazz:

Thank you for making me an honorary member of both Senshores de Groove and Jazz Pilgrims. Someday I will make it to both Brazil and London. Besides the love of music, I am also a student of martial arts and Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is a passion of mine so now I have two reasons to go, besides the beautiful beaches I hear about. As for London, I love House music and I know the House scene in London is groundbreaking so someday when my kids are older, my mission will be accomplished.

Easy,

Sam "ALL JAM"
