| Ok, I am updating my database (I lost a whole bunch of entries somehow). So as I am going through my collection, I am finding all these tracks with a country name in them... Azoto - San Salvador Gibson Brothers - Cuba Decoupage - Puerto Rico I think there is whole bunch with America in it (Donna Summer, James Brown, Patrick Juvet, to name a few). So... let's see how long the list could be... Do you know any more?

| The Gibson Brothers have a song called "Latin America" where they name many countries and cities, it's fun because when they scream "Latin America is... BUENOS AIRES!" you hear this kind of accordion (tango-like) over the Latin rhythm that, of course, is absolutely out of place :D Kind of that "Buenos Aires" song on the Evita soundtrack... Buenos Aires is not on the Caribe! And they seem to mix countries & cities as well. :) Also makes me think of the cover of Steely Dan's "Gaucho" LP (one of my favorite bands). They have this gaucho dancing tango, which is kinda surreal because the actual gauchos -which lived in the pampa, raised cattle, etc.- would never have danced this urban 20th century rhythm, i.e. the tango. Anyway! Another one that mention countries and nacionalities in the lyrics is Joe Bataan's "Mestizo" with its popular chant "Venezuela, Nicaragua, Puerto Rico moreno" or something like that. |
