| Mmmm...wonder if the vibe would have been as 'electric' and the selection so revolutionary if a compilation CD had been slipped on and Mr Mancuso was actually elsewhere...me thinks not. I still question peoples' subjectivity where critique of this man is concerned. I read this little epiphany on another board where it was greeted with howls of derision. Rightly or wrongly? You decide. "I had quite a transormative experience this time. My first Loft Party was special for obvious reasons. The ones since have been brilliant. But this last one has CHANGED MY LIFE permanently. David Mancuso makes me dance to all the spaces outside the rhythm. This is where love resides. At one moment I thought three hours had gone by when only 30 minutes had actually passed. The music and the messages rushed into my body and I heard them ALL for the first time. Many of the early songs in the night were clearly about looking for love. Most songs were modern songs and I'd say not a one hard core loft classic. The search for love ended with the words, "Now that we found love, what are we gonna do?" This marked a change in the night. The next song, the first big loft classic, "Can't Live Without Your Love" by Tamiko Jones, launched the party into orbit. Whew!!!!! I particular thread made it's impact when there was a series of gospel songs and religious overtones; "Stand on the Word," for example. The first song played after this phase? James Brown's "Sex Machine." So we thought we found love earlier, only to lose sight of it by going through other phases in our lives, then completely rebelling against it and further losing our grip on love. "Love is the Message" reminded us that we'd strayed away. We'd gone through all the struggles of life and love, and concluded at the end that we'd "Found Love" once and for all marked by Blaze. The final exclamation before the re-entry into reality came in the form of "L.O.V.E Got a Hold of Me." It sure did, and once again Love Saves the Day! Mind blowing. Praise to David Mancuso. See you at the next party." Er, could sir please pull over to the side of the pretentiousness turnpike... |

| Is there something wrong in thinking Mr. Mancuso is overrated or that his disciples are a eulogy too far? We've certainly heard more of those prosaic ramblings than any dissent. In all seriousness though. Looking at that playlist, it looks like the man has been trapped by his own success. Imagine any other DJ playing the same old same old, every single time he played. Yet this guy makes 30 minutes seem like 3 hours........wow, give me another tab of E. |

| when you two get on your high english horse about something you don't like or think is overrated or blah blah blah, you're like ollie & jerry from the breakin' soundtrack: "there's no stoppin' us, no stoppin' no one does it better there's no stoppin' us, no stoppin real life doesn't matter." [except not as catchy] |

| SF: I gave up on the high horse at the age of 4 or maybe it was 14. :P Mr. Mancuso is up there to be shot down. It's a lousy job, but somebody's gotta do it. Please note: I give the man full respect by calling him Mr. Mancuso. Not for him some monicker like Ollie or Jerry or...........oh, the names I could call him, if I were more feeble minded. |

| Maybe he's right. Us Brits should lighten up. Perhaps we should learn to "dance to all the spaces outside the rhythm" a little bit more, for the wealth of understanding that'll bring...

| Sounds like the Mancuso dancer's semi-religious experience("dancing to the spaces outside the rhythm") I'm loving that book Love Saves The Day with the discussions of mixing Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love" at a certain point into Chicago's "I'm A Man", etc. This stuff fascinates me. It's fun to imagine the myriad of unlikely "dancefloor" records that people used to dance to...before "disco" per se was invented. :D

| Question: Does any play list 'sound that good' when you're reading it? I think not. Only way to know is to be there. Top 40, club classics, rarities, who cares unless the dj knows what he's doing? It's the experience that counts. As for 'dancing outside the rhythm'... , Marky's explanation works for me. |

| If the beleageured sfbeary actually took notice, he would know that I am not at war with David Mancuso and say so often enough - that letter is proof that so much semi-religious tat gets written about the man, people believe they're having an out-of-body experienece during his sets! I've been to some of the recent Loft parties (like the ones raved about here) and they're very good social occasions and nothing else. I defy them to turn anyone's life around. This is just a joke. I will continue to question these idiots. And sfbeary shouldn't read my posts and get on his high horse about me getting on mine. Duh! And, no, I'm not into Soft Cell, fool!

| sfb, you have just experienced what it's like to live in the UK! We live in a culture of 'build 'em up, knock 'em down'; you only have to read our 'newspapers' to see this. It is a British national hobby to slag off any semi-important figure & gleefully watch them fall from grace. Sometimes it's needed, but they don't know where to stop & generally I find it cruel & mean, but that's Brits for you!
