Default Billboard Disco Compilation Consensus Charts-Part 1:10/74-12/75

OK, I've decided to experiment with those pesky old Billboard Disco charts and combine the data contained in each of the separate charts and compile them into one chart for each week. I was disappointed at all the titles that were ommitted from Joel Whitburn's Disco Charts Book......so I'm gonna play around with this idea.

My fervor to get acquainted with those more obscure titles in the 1975-1976 era led me to this idea. I might as well just write them all out so I can remember what to look for, right?

I'll assign points based on chart placement and combine the points of all the various songs on each chart to come up with a "consensus compilation" chart for each week. :o :o :o

Well, we'll see how long I can keep it up.

I'll type the first one this weekend.

Any idea where I can access those old Tom Moulton columns I started typing? I'll add to those also. I have no idea where to find them. Bernie or Nicky....can I get a link??? :D

Thanks e-funk,

but I think I've got what I need. I'm gonna do compilations of the individual charts up til the debut of the first national disco chart in the summer of 1976.

I am missing some of the Tom Moulton columns that were continued on different pages other than the chart page. Anyone have the complete Moulton? I am volunteering for typing duty.....to convey the info to the folks who care. :D

Club Dialogue by Tom Moulton
10/26/74

(New York City)

GLORIA GAYNOR'S "NEVER CAN SAY GOODBYE" is still the top record in the discos and has been for five weeks.

"YOU LITTLE TRUSTMAKER" by THE TYMES.
This is the original version; stronger lead singer, female back-up group, hotter mix. DJ's have been trying to obtain this version but it is not available commercially, although some disco DJ's have obtained copies of this version which has jumped into their top 10 within the past for weeks.

FREE SPIRIT'S "JUST AS LONG AS I CAN"
(Disco mix; longer and faster is available from Chess/Janus only as a special promotional copy because the disco version was released after the shorter commercial copies were released. Chess/Janus feels the commercial copies should be sold before the Disco version is released commercially.

Roulette Records has made a test pressing of the Disco-mix of "YOUR LOVE" by THE MOMENT OF TRUTH (slower, original tempo and much longer than the commercial one released several months ago, which was not played in the discos). The DJ's who have it love it and play it; hopefully it will become commercially available soon.

hey marky,

thanks for these charts!

i think the version of "you little trustmaker" that moulton mentions was never actually pressed on vinyl. he played it for me last year on his home computer - it's sung by the tymes singer who ordinarily sings lead on their other records - he has a much deeper voice. he talked about trying to get that version released, but he may have given up on that project.

Hey sfbeary,

Hmmmmm.....So did this alternate/original version of "You Little Trustmaker" only exist only on tape? If all these djs had it, it had to be in some format, right? :o

"all these djs" is an overstatement - he mentions that "some disco DJ's have obtained copies of this version" - that could've been a couple of key djs that moulton himself gave reel-to-reel tapes to. it wasn't uncommon for a key dj to play unreleased/advance/alternate/privately edited versions on reel-to-reel. robbie leslie used it do it a lot. it might have also been an acetate, but i've never heard any collector mentioning having this. moulton himself has this version, and i've heard it, but as i said, it was on his home computer.
