I've been taping and listening to the Top 100...noticed this on my ride to work this morning...#22 for the year....

SHAME, SHAME, SHAME

"said I'm going out to every "disco-tay" (theque--Shirley knows her French!!!) :P
I'm gonna dance, dance, dance, dance
til the break of DAY...I said....
shame, shame, shame, shame, shame, shame, shame, shame,
shame on you - if ya can't dance too."

I heard a "disco" in there.... this debuted 12/21/74.

OK, today I'm gonna at look at how the danceable/roots of "disco" records have done in the mainstream. I'm gonna look at two sources:

1) Dave Marsh's Best of Top 40 lists in the back of the 1981 edition of The Book Of Rock Lists. The contributors to this book compiled their choices for the top 40 records of each year of the rock era starting in 1955 - 1981, the year the book was published. The more recent update of this book eliminates this section which I love, so I'm gonna mention some of the titles here. (FYI: Dave Marsh also wrote/edited the Rolling Stone Record Guide that I use to do the "Artist Spotlight"; he was a major rock critic back in the day.)

2) Then a look at The Grammy Awards. Which songs that worked in the dance clubs of the early Seventies got recognition from the Grammy people?

So, I'll start way back in 1970 to get an overview....

The Book of Rock Lists - Volume 16 - 1970:

OK, that's just about it for the 1975 year-end in review. I'm gonna add the following info to the Top 100: producer/writer/timing//bpm/cd availabilty/postion in the Disc-o-la Fortune 500 ...maybe next week I'll have that done.
Then I need a vacation.

Hope this is interesting to you. It is to me.

Today's chart was typed while listening to the new 3 cd set from the UK: 12"/80s...featuring lotsa goodies from that era...including the 12" U.S. remix of "It's My Life" by Talk Talk!!! It's not listed on AMG yet...so maybe I'll type the contents later.....
