We need to have a blow by blow (no pun intended) description of everything that went on at this party.

Which board members attended
Some of the songs that were played
If tapes/cd of the music will be available
Who was there that you haven't seen in years
Who needs botox and/or the Atkins diet badly

Ha! I love it, NRG! The discussions about weight and energy Marky, Jeff and I have had up to this very weekend. The primary fear I'm hearing from everyone is that we'll get sleeeeeeeepy before the morning music starts and want to go home!

We've been talking about whether the bar will have a sufficient supply of Red Bull and coffee! :o

Seriously, I'm hoping we'll be so busy getting reacquainted with friends and dancing (can I still dance???) that we'll wonder where the time went.

The DJ booth is suppose to be set up with a CD recorder to record the evening's program. Hopefully, Robbie will offer the CDs on his website when he gets home.

That brings me to this question, which Board Members might we see???

hi Keefelc,
Sunday would surely be a good opportunity for board members to meet up but unless i do indeed strike it lucky with a last minute deal i won't be among them, at least not this time ! Give or take a couple of hours, its pretty much a 24 trip to San Francisco from Dublin but i know it would be worth it for this. Anybody else flying in from abroad or am i the only one with jet set delusions ?

I'm sure Robbie Leslie's set will be more than worth staying awake for right through the morning music and that there won't be a need to overdo it on the caffeine (or something stronger) !

Had assumed that Trocadero Transfer was located in the Castro, it wasn't too far from the Transamerica Pyramid then ?

Look forward to hearing all about 'the party' on here next week..!

Actually Pizzazz, it's closer to the Moscone Center & Yerba Buena Gardens/ Sony Metreon area, but more towards the freeway overpass. So, pretty far from the Pyramid. About a 15 minute walk from Market Street (5 long blocks from Market). Remember any of those areas?

OK, I have two tapes from another Trocadero party :"Reflections Party" (6/6/80)

DJ: Bobby Viteritti (he's credited on these tapes; lots of his custom remixes are featured).

REFLECTIONS PARTY

KEEP ON HOLDING ON - Margaret Reynolds
LOVE DANCIN' - Marlena Shaw
ALIVE WITH LOVE - Cut Glass
DANCE YOURSELF DIZZY - Liquid Gold
EARTH CAN BE JUST LIKE HEAVEN - Two Tons O' Fun
DISCO KICKS - Boystown Gang (Steely D...it was even OUT in June of 1980!!! Hey it was homegrown in SF)
WISHBONE - Tantra
EAST TO WEST - Voyage
RUNAWAY - Gino Soccio
I'M READY - Kano
NIGHT DRIVE ("American Gigolo") - Giorgio Moroder
FLY TOO HIGH - Janis Ian
HOLD ON, I'M COMING - Karen Silver

(now the most awkward part....Bobby attempts to mix in the new hyper-fast Gino Soccio "S-BEAT" into the mix ....in my mind I see dancers fleeing the dancefloor..."No, Bobby...make it stop...it hurts my ears!!!!" :P

then....strangely, he mixes into a pitched down PARTY BOYS --pitched down to about 120 bpm...sounds weird; ultra-drugged out...)

RHYTHM OF THE WORLD - Gino Soccio (OK, this one works!!!)
SEARCHING - Change (fades out....some stuff was obviously edited out here)

TRIPPIN ON THE MOON - Cerrone
RADIO ACTION - Claudja Barry
YOUR LOVE - Lime ( always this song!!! see why I hate this group soooo much?)
I WANNA TAKE YOU HOME - Patrick Cowley

LOVE IS IN YOU - Nightlife Unlimited
I'LL CRY FOR YOU - Kumano
DISCO CHOO CHOO - Nightlife Unlimited
ROCK ME NOW - Peter Batah
SET ME FREE - Three Degrees
KEEP SMILIN' - Carrie Lucas
I GOT THE FEELIN' - Two Tons O' Fun
THE EVE OF THE WAR ("WAR OF THE WORLDS") - Jeff Wayne featuring Justin Hayward
THE END - Change

TRAFFIC BREAKDOWN - Boogie People
FLY WITH THE WIND - Peter Jacques Band
CAN'T BE LOVE - DO IT TO ME ANYWAY - Peter Brown
WITHOUT YOUR LOVE - Cut Glass
(that western theme medley from Moby Dick Records...was it called AMERICAN DREAM MEDLEY?..yeah, that's it - Hot Posse)
PARADISE ISLAND (INST.) - Wonderland Band
WALK RIGHT NOW - The Jacksons
LEAVING ON A MIDNIGHT TRAIN - Nick Straker Band
THE VISITORS - Gino Soccio
LOOKING FOR CLUES - Robert Palmer

that's all folks.

hi Keefelc,
Now i know where you mean, i remember having lunch at Moscone North and escaping the afternoon heat in the nearby Museum of Modern Art. Tried to cover as much ground as possible while there and did manage to get around, got to know Market Street at least !

Markydefad,
Thanks for posting these playlists, they are great ! Have been playing La Bionda 'Sandstorm' a lot ! I only recently learned that Boystown Gang 'Disco Kicks', was yet another of their cover versions. But if it was around by mid 1980 then when does the Original Mass original date from ? Thought it was 1981 on JDC...

Marky was kind enough to let me dupe his cassettes of the Reflections Party, which we do indeed know the DJ was Bobby V. Plus, the set has that certain undescribeable sound that you could identify a set by Bobby.

The end of first tape that Mark listed sounds like somebody tried to fill the cassette with songs after the initial party set ended. Truly sounds out of place, but it's worth that awkwardness to get the rest of the program.

As for Disco Kicks, wasn't there a white label promo floating around for quite awhile before the Original Mass and Boystown Gang versions were released? I remember that song was wildly received at Troc when hardly anyone knew what it was.

Pizazz, I'm ashamed to say I've never been in the Museum of Modern Art except for the Gift Shop! Does that count?

My friend, Art, tells me Robbie has left the building and is on his way to S.F. as of yesterday. Get ready people. I emailed Robbie to wish him well and asked him if the hours were right to not forget the 'sleaze' set. I actually said, "Show them what NYC boyz played for what the west coast calls 'morning music'." Robbie's closing response:

"Morning music --- you bet!
Hold On To My Love,
Robbie"

Oh, I believe you children are going to party!! :D :D

"Disco Kicks" by Original Mass was the b-side to the "Theme from Mork and Mindy" in 1979, and was rereleased in 1981 on JDC.

Discovery,
Thank You for the information on Original Mass ! The only other disco version of 'Theme From Mork and Mindy' i was previously aware of was by Cake on Ariola, also from 1979. Do you know what label was 'Theme...'/'Disco Kicks' was released on ? Would love to hear it, the Boystown Gang version still 'kicks' after all these years !

Keelefc,
How come you never made if past the MOMA gift shop then..? Were there simply too many distractions or was it closing time and you had to run out and go get ready for yet another night at Trocadero ?

Wow Nicky and Art, thanks for the tease! Mark and I were talking about the party's closing being extended past 2 pm. The producers, who love Morning Music as much as we do, wanted to give Robbie a little more time to spin his Morning/Sleaze magic. Mark commented he wouldn't mind if Robbie starts that type of music around midnight, or earlier! I had to agree. Can't wait to hear what treasures he's dug up for us.

Jeff was suppose to have arrived in SF yesterday. Mark comes in on Saturday. The excitement is building!

Discovery & Pizzazz, thanks for refreshing my fading memory about "Disco Kicks"! Glad to know I wasn't just dreaming.

As for MOMA - can you believe I used to work right by the place. One would think I would have gone over to browse at lunch time. Nope! Never happened and forget about afterwork, the place would be closed (or just about closing). So, chalk it up to another famous SF attraction that I've never been to (took me over 40 years to finally visit Alcatraz!).

Pizzazz: Ariola I suspect, but I only have the JDC release.

How will we be able to tell who Markydefad, Keefelc, Eclipse, and other discomusic.com people are at the party?

Discovery, Keefelc and everybody: have a truly terrific time at the party and 'remember me' when you hear 'Disco Kicks' and my number one request - Frankie Valli 'Soul'/'Heaven Above Me' !

It just occured to me that the festivites should be in full swing about the time i get up for work Monday morning (early start 6:30am) ! In the meantime, i'm off for a Sunday afternoon in town, possibly including (keefelc !) visting some tourist attraction like the National Gallery i've never actually been to before...

Enjoy and look forward to reading about it later in the week !

ps: Discovery, now i just have to know what label Original Mass was originally on, it really is an obscurity !
