disco tracks mix-advises needed

hello everyone,

i heard of a friend that there is a website somewhere which showed pretty many disco tracks and how they can be best mixed with other tracks. like a specialized tracklist.

it just shows a list with tracks and good options to mix the track with (other tracks), it also includes bpm count and describes exactly at which part of the track the other one can fade in or so..

did anyone hear about such a website?
i am geeting into dj mixing with 70s tracks, so this website could be helpful for me to get a feeling for the music.

My advice would be DON'T GO THERE, unless you really want to end up sounding like a thousand and one other DJs. Sites like the one you describe, take away the art of DJing.
Learn for yourself. In the long run, it will be of more use to you.

hello quinny, thanks a lot for you opinion on this.

I think it can destroy dj mixing at all, you are right. but for starters its a good source to get familiar with all the nice seventhies tracks ever released. so I would be interessted if you could point me to one of those sites to help me out for the first run ;))

If it is info about 70s tracks you're looking for, you don't have to go any further. Discomusic.com is the best source on the internet for just that.

I heard of a list which for example shows good possible tracks a dj can mix with this song.
but the list contains lots of other important disco tracks
so as a dj beginner i would need that to get into dj mixing(especially 70s), because its key to know what tunes fit the best.

My routine is to "scan" through the tracks I have decided to put together in a mix. Then I try to imagine a nice "listing" that is good for the purpose of the mix (dancing, listening or just for the mix sake). Then step over the edge and use your imagination. If you practice this routine (of course there will be some ugly mixes) you will find your own mixes that becomes your favourites and you will build up confidence to do serious live performances (that's what it is all about isn't it?) and adapt to any given situation.

what Quinny wants to say;
If You are REALLY into disco ( and you are a D.J. ), then it sounds at least little weird, looking for cooking recipe for mixing disco songs. Usually D.J.-s develop a unique skill for performing a set, and not blindly trying to copy each other.
Or am I maybe wrong. If you want to play disco as D.J. you have to familiarize yourself first with music and then things usually goes as it should. Some newby wanna be a little classy and plays disco just because it happen to be trendy again ? :cry:

To cut a long story short.... I don't think a site of this kind exists, or, at least. I never heard about.
I understand your point of view, since you are a novice, but I feel very close to Quinny and still remember all my note books full of bpms, info and notes on every track. All by myself!!!
