| Hey Gang: I don't know if this trivia question has ever been posted, since I'm fairly new on the board, but I figured I post it anyway. Who is the only disco act from the 70's to have a #1 pop single in the 80's? Just a note, this does not include crossover artists like Diana Ross, Kool & The Gang, Bee Gees, etc. Only pure disco acts like Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor, KC&SB, Chic, Vicki Sue Robinson, The Trammps, etc. DevP |

| He up Dev :D I've been thinking about your question and i came up with 4 :-? Sister Sledge - Frankie 1985 Odyssey - Use it up & Wear it Out 1980 Chaka Khan - I feel for You 1984 KC & The Sunshine Band - Give it Up 1983 Maybe you refer to the US chart  These were all from the UK chart However i wouldn't call Kool & the Gang a crossover band Cheers :D :D

| Just a thought... Didn't Donna Summer's "She Works Hard For The Money" (wasn't that the title?) go to number one as well? |

| Stan: I'm sorry, I should have been more specific. It is only the U.S. charts. But thanks for the info on the U.K. charts. It's good to know that disco music was more excepted in the U.K. throughout the 80's. :D K-Bee: Donna Summer's "She Works Hard For The Money" only reach # 3 on the U.S. pop charts, although that's very good. It did reach # 1 (for 3 weeks) on the U.S. R&B charts though. Since no one has been able to get the correct disco act, let me drop a couple of little hints. First, although the song was recorded by a disco act from the 70's the song was not a disco song. It was more of a soft pop song. Second, it was remade into a disco song during the 90's, in the U.S. In fact the remake reach # 6 on the U.S. pop charts. Hope these hints help. DevP |

| Stan: BTW. I refered to Kool and The Gang as crossover because they formed back in the mid to late 60's as a funk band. There U.S. hits "Jungle Boogie", "Hollywood Swinging" and others songs from the late 60's, early to mid 70's was considered funk. They started crossing over around 1976 when they released "Open Sesame", which was featured on the "Saturday Night Fever". They officially crossover with the release of "Ladies Night" album and single. Throughout the 80's they combined there disco and funk styles and came up with some big hits, including the # 1 U.S. pop hit "Celebration" and top 10 U.S. pop hits like "Get Down On It", "Mislead", "Fresh" and others. BTW, I'm no expert in music. I just remember reading about this in an article back in the 80's. DevP |

all i can come up with on this one is I Can Dream About You - Dan Hartman :D :( :-? It seems to fit the bill, but i can find no reference to it being re-released as a disco song in the 90's. If i'm wrong how about some more clues :D :D Cheers |

| Hey Stan: Sorry, but it wasn't "I Can Dream About You." Great comeback song for Dan Hartman though. :D Some more clues, huh? O.k. here's one more that just might give it away. The song was # 1 on the U.S. pop charts in 1980. Also, I failed to mention in the 2nd clue of the previous post that the song was not remade or re-released by the same group, but a different group altogether. Thanks for hanging in there, Stan. Hope these futher clues help. DevP |

| YOU GOT IT, MAN!!! You deserve a trophy for your hard work. And of cause I had to be sneaky because that's what makes a great trivia question, great. Yes, KC&SB was the one and only "pure disco act" from the 70's to have a # 1 pop hit in the 80's. In fact, it was the first # 1 pop hit in the U.S. of the 80's when it hit the top of the charts in the first week of January 1980. Of course, this doesn't mean that there were no disco songs that made it to # 1 on the pop charts in the U.S. during the 80's. Lipps, Inc. ("Funkytown"), Diana Ross ("Upside Down"), Queen ("Another Bites The Dust"), Kool & The Gang ("Celebration"), Stars On 45 ("Beatles Medley" or better known today as "Discobeatles") David Bowie ("Let's Dance") and few others made it to # 1 on the U.S. pop charts during the 80's. O.K. Stan, here's a second part of my trivia. (Just when you thought it was over) Who was the dance-pop group from England that took the disco version of KC&SB "Please Don't Go" to # 1 in England and # 6 in the U.S.? This should be easier for you. Or is it? DevP |

| That would be KWS from Nottingham. There was also an almost identical version out at the same time from an Italian act, I think called Double-U or something like that & that was a huge hit on the continent in '92 while KWS did the business in the UK/US.

| Well, i knew the answer but Steely beat me to it :( So a little question for the both of you (i think i may have asked this one before in my little quizzes) but its topical KC & the Sunshine Band, how/why did they chose this name? & also which KC UK chart hit shares the title with a Tamla Motown group hit?

| Steely: Good job and thanks for the added info on the Italian version of the song. Stan: First, I have to admit that I'm a big KC&SB fan. Second, as a fan I'm ashamed to only know the first part of the how/why of the groups name  and third I'm going to guess the how/why of the second part of the groups name, :-? which I'm almost sure I will be the right answer. Here goes. KC is the abbreviation of the lead singers name, Harry Wayne "Casey". This is the part I'm sure about. As far as The Sunshine Band, here's my guess: The group, including KC, originated in Florida or affectionately called the "Sunshine state" (due to the theory that it's always sunny in Florida). So according to my calculations Man, I hope I'm right, since I'm already embarrassed that as a fan I'm not 100% sure of the how/why of the name. But in case I'm wrong here's another trivia regarding the groups name that I'm proud to know. What was first full name of KC & The Sunshine Band when it charted it's first single, "Blow Your Whistle", back in 1973 in the U.S.? DevP |
