| Hey guys, My name is Henry, and I'm new to this forum. I'm a huge fan of disco, funk, house and whatever sounds similar. I was curious...are there any record labels that are putting out disco/funk music by current artists? I'm an up-and-coming disco artist (I guess that's the easiest way to put it), and I'd like to submit demos to some record labels. If there are any record labels out there that are currently putting out disco/funk stuff, I'd love to submit to them. My music is kind of like Jamiroquai, but more along the lines of straight disco and funk with a bit of acid jazz thrown in (kind of like his first CD, "Emergency on Planet Earth"). I also have kind of a sexual sort of vibe, and I do the whole nine yards -- disco suits, styles, everything. I'm definitely not a Jamiroquai rip-off. I love disco culture and style, and I readily embrace it in my music. If anyone can help me out with labels to submit to, I'd really appreciate it. Also, I've gotten suggestions that I should submit to the European versions of the major labels (like Sony UK) because they accept demos and are generally easier to get signed to. Does anyone know anything about how that works? Oh, by the way...has anyone heard that Maroon 5 band? What do you guys think of it? I don't want to offend anyone (especially with my first post), but I don't like it. Everyone's touting them as an American Jamiroquai because they use some funk guitar. To me, it's just alternative rock with some funk guitar riffs thrown in. He doesn't even sound like Jay Kay, or, better yet, Stevie Wonder. However, if you're a fan of them, I respect your opinion. What's everyone else's take on them (Maroon 5)? Thanks, Henry |

Henry.... welcome to the discomusic.com's forum... I wish I could help you in your quest for a record label. :( I started a thread of this band over in the Pop Music Forum. Guess what... nobody responded   :D I only heard of their song This Love and it's a pretty good one. You've actually sparked some interest in the band for me... I'm thinking about picking of the CD now. |

| Hey guys, Thanks for both of your replies and welcomes to the forum. What does everyone think of Z Records? That's the label that Joey Negro owns. I emailed them and they said they were accepting demos, so I'm going to send them a demo soon. Does anyone know how they are as far as signing is concerned? Also, what about Astralwerks? Do you think they'd be interested in a retro/disco sort of gimmick? What about Sony UK, or maybe the old Acid Jazz label? |
