Tom Savarese
Notable records he mixed include Chic's "Dance, Dance, Dance", Macho's "I'm A Man" and Erotic Drum Band (LP). He is still around and had agreed in principal to an interview a while back so we'll see if that pans out.

The were among the first legendary New York deejays. I remember seeing Tom Savarese playing in Italy in the summer of '79 when he toured Europe (he was the "best disco dj" for that year according to Billlboard awards). He was, together with David Rodriguez, one of the first US jocks to tour abroad.
I still have the flyer of that tour, but unfortunately I lost a couple of mixed tapes I had

from hearing the old disconet records, Tom Savarese sounds better in mixing then Bobby "dj" Guttadaro. Tom Savarese was the first dj to start off disconet mixes. Program 1 Vol. 1 contains 2 sets from tom which contain:

The mixing is excellent. But i have another disconet record from bobby that isn't so great. terrible connections for a professional record but the songs on the record are excellent.

Bernie did u ever hear of the dj discotizer? did he spin in any clubs during the 70's or on the radio cuz i have a live mix from this dj back in 78. All i know is that it is from New York.

Do you guys know where i can get mixtapes from old radio shows? like Hot 103 in NYC or 92 ktu? Thanks

Bobby DJ, Tom Savarese and all the main NYC DJ's of the 70's are covered in Tim Lawrence's excellent book, 'Love Saves The Day', which is out pretty soon.

The book includes a list of records Savarese played at 12 West (from 1975) and a couple Bobby DJ photos (one with Michael Cappello) taken at Le Jardin.

I'm from the NYC area and I never heard of that DJ, but that's not to say he didn't exist.

I think this has been discussed here previously. There's much debate as to whether this is a genuine '78 mix tape.

The tape appeared on the DeepHouse page some time ago. I downloaded it about a couple of years ago.
I don't know who did it but I appreciate a lot the use of repeated breaks in the tape. The style and the technical skills in the tape agree with the year 78 (rude beat mix with lot of chops and no gain controls). It reminds me a lot of what I (everybody of us then) was doing.

Again on Tim Lawrence's book. I heard about it for the first time a couple of years ago. Again, last august when in Chicago a dj friend gave me some drafts he had, and he told me the book has been written by David Mancuso too.
Which is the official release date??

Not written with David Mancuso, but with his full support and blessing.

I was browsing through the old posts and came across this topic. I agree, Saverese was probably more accomplished than Guttadaro when it came to mixing. I've got a mix by Guttadaro and it's horrible.

Savarese would be very popular in Italy during the late 70's.

Also, for those of you who are familiar with the Italian disco scene. There are other DJ's worth of mention: Tony Carrasco (an American expatriate, who's never left Italy since the late 70's), Jonathan Tedesco, Jonathan Jan, Micky, Faber Cucchetti, Franco Moiraghi, Fred Petrus and so on. Some of them went on to become very famous producers.
