Paul:

You can't stop us that easily.

Generally, I HATE Christmas because of the completely fake thing it has become, but there are a few Chrimbo records that I like.

1). Nat King Cole Christmas album - This always seemed to get the balance between commercialism and tradition just about right. And ooh! that velvety voice was just right.

2). 'Wounded' John Scott Cree - Rudolph The Red Nosed Reindeer - (sorry if details aren't 100% accurate...it's 30 years since I bought it)
This guy knew exactly what Christmas was all about and went out to totally destroy it with this blues parody of the infamous kiddies favourite. Imagine any "woke up this mornin'" blues song, with a chugging beat, tortured vocals and chunky guitars and you've got it in one. What a piss take!!!! Brilliant.

Otherwise, with very few exceptions, put all the Christmas records and Christmas hits into a bin marked RUBBISH.

I like these xmas songs:

Celine Dion - Don't Save It All For Christmas Day
Luther Vandross - This Christmas
Elvis Presley - Blue Christmas
Eartha Kitt - Santa Baby
Drifters - White Christmas
Bobby Helms - Jingle Bell Rock
Boney James - ALL CUTS

I like to play these songs during late November & December ... while i'm doing my shows. :)

You guys :D
It's like one of those mafia movies. I try to stop for a little while and you drag me back into this again!
OK. I like This Christmas too, though I favor Donny Hathaway's version.

I still like the soundtrack to the Peanuts Christmas TV specials as performed by the Vince Guaraldi Trio. This is probably because it's the only Christmas-associated music that wasn't drilled into my head for 2 months of the year, 9 hours a day, for all 8 years that I worked retail.

All other Christmas music is psychological warfare.

Ahh the joy of working in retail at Christmas. There have been a number of crimes against Festive music over the years but Slade has gotta be the ultimate wrist slasher.

I read in the papers that staff at Stanstead airport threatened to go on strike if Slade was played one more time. They won and Noddy was banished to the bin!!!

Could this be the start of something good?

Some free choices:
Elton John "Step Into Christmas"
Ryuichi Sakamoto "Merry Christmas, Mr Lawrence"
Where are the bells ?
George Harrison "Ding Dong, Ding Dong" :D

I went into some shops at the weekend that weren't playing Christmas music......what a relief!!!!!
Christmas music is/was a problem though. Do you or don't you play it? Damned if you do, damned if you don't. There's always someone who can't get into the Christmas spirit, unless the likes of Slade is belting out. I absolutely hated Christmas as a DJ. You'd often end up with a room full of jerks to play to and often, a manager that insisted on a high yuletide quotient. Aaaaaaaaggggggggghhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Graham, it's strange that u should mention the Peanuts Xmas specials as I was saying last week that I always loved those cartoons & really wish the TV companies in the UK would show them these days. The music was very cool & jazzy wasn't it? They were wasted on kids!

At least they're all on DVD now (over here, anyway).

One unfortunate thing is that all CD copies of the Peanuts xmas soundtrack (and any others mastered in the last 20 years) have considerable sonic degradation. The master tapes are litterally coming apart, and Fantasy never thought to make any back-ups before it was too late.
