Rodmann2: That's a bit unfair, cutting off the whole quote just to fit your cheap shot, especially as the missing part of the quote was self derogatory anyhooos!! Ouch!!

This is what I've beeen listeneing to:

RICHARD T BEAR - Sunshine Hotel (I liked this record for some reason....can't remember why, but I still have a certain affection for it)
BERNIE WORRELL - Insurance Man For The Funk ( P-Funkin' good)
SCREAMIN' TONY BAXTER - Get Up Offa That Thing (a Bobby O production? that rocked my world at the time. Part Cod/part heavy, heavy funk)
HERB ALPERT - Rotation (this was far better than I ever thought and I thought it was a goody, anyhow)
THE SUNSHINE BAND - Black water Gold (not a patch on the original by African Music Machine, but the original would never have been played in a disco by the time this remake came out)
C&C MUSIC FACTORY - Everybody Dance Now [Gonna Make You Sweat] (even though this was after my time as a DJ, I would have loved playing records like this!)
JESTOFUNK - Theme from JFK (pretty mindless Herbie Hancock sampling mayhem, but I could see myself going for it when it's rescued by the sax solo/doodling)
JB HORNS - Picture On The Wall ( Solid and slinky; the type of Jazz Funk I really enjoy jigging my butt to)
JAKI GRAHAM - Set Me Free (life affirming, joyous dance music for grown ups)
SHAKATAK - Streetwalkin' (just to remind me how {insert your own description} they were. Plod, plod plod!)

Funny you should mention "Rotation" Quinny....in fact, I just bought the "Rise" album myself for no money at all.
Rotation and the title track are classics of course, it really is amazing that this is the guy who also did "Tijuana Taxi" . Sadly, some of the other tracks on the album illustrates him not really giving up the easy listening stuff alltogether.

KBee: And to think he did 'Keep Your Eye On Me' in '87 that was as up to date and as freaky as virtually anything, at that time! What a wicked workout that was.
I remember programming lotsa Tijuana stuff for a school/college open evening back in the day, 'cos it had such broad appeal and was deemed kinda sophisticated listenenig. What!!! You could have knocked me out with a feather when I first saw Rise mentioned in the Record Mirror, a description of it and the fact that it was supposedly so funky was enough for me to be more than interested. Intrigued might be a better word.

Forrrrce: Had a feeling that Bernie would be a Forrrce fave. they don't get much more lowdown dirty than that, do they?

Say What!? Herb is the epitome of cool mate, he's so sharp and so his is trumpet - those tracks like A Taste Of Honey are true Classics of Lounge Cool, right up there with Mas Que Nada by Sergio Mendes, Theme from Get Carter by Roy Budd and the Bullitt and Dirty Harry anthems of Lalo Schifrin! Herb Alpert is eternal in his canary yellow poloneck, driving his beach buggy over sunkissed sand dunes, keeping us bopping and snapping our fingers! Give us The Lonely Bull and Cowboys and Indians right now:-)!!!

The Medicine Song / Stephanie Mills
Whatever Lola Wants / Sarah Vaughan (Verve2 remix)
Miracles / Pet Shop Boys
Lost Cause / Beck
Whisper To A Scream / Icicle Works
It's My Life / Talk Talk
I Can't Stop / Al Green
Gold For the Price of Silver / Kings of Convenience
Wonderland / Alcazar
On and Off Again / Sondre Lerche

You might sense a Scandinavian bias (what? where?) with the Kings and Sondre and Alcazar, but I notice that I often have an overlap or two with Markydefad (he has such good taste!). I played the PSB song for some friends and was a bit embarrassed to find myself getting all choked up. Neil Tennant sound so detached and yet...

Yes Robbie, for some reason I NEVER remember the name of the group. I love the song terribly but the Upfront name slips my mind - maybe because it was a one-hit wonder :-??????Who knows?
