I believe Graham said it was Yaz in Europe and changed to Yazoo in America for legal reasons.

Yeah, there was a Texas rock group that had the name Yazoo in the US...so it was shortened to Yaz after "Situation" was already released. They (Sire Records) put a sticker over the "oo". I kid you not!!!!

Correct. Original US/Canadian copies of "Situation" and "Upstairs At Eric's" say Yazoo, all others after that say "Yaz".

To make matters more confusing, in the late 80s there was a completely different UK dance act going by the name "Yazz".

Even more confusing is that the European and North American versions of both Yaz(oo) albums have different tracklistings. And the best-of compilation that came out a few years ago has a different title as well (not sure about the tracklisting on that one...)

You could make a box set of all the remixes of "Situation". Not bad for a track that was originally a b-side. :)

That would have to be something different... Yazoo was Vince Clarke (previously of Depeche Mode, later of Erasure) and Alison Moyet. The two "didn't get along" and split up in 1983. Mute put out remixes of their tracks in 1989 and again in 1999, along with a "best of" compilation... rather silly for a group that only had two albums plus a single.

BTW, I don't see any mention of Yazoo on Jeremy Healy's web page...

The other YAZZ was a female singer with the blonde spiky hair. Her hit was the ubiquitous 1990 "The Only Way Is Up"...

Vince Clarke & Alison Moyet were YAZ.

Note the difference in the spelling. :P

I don't think so!First,Yazoo was already dead in 85/86.Second Alison Moyet already put out her first album Alf(her childhood nick name).Thirdly Vince Clarke already put together Erasure and had two albums in the can by 86.Fourthly Vince Clarke never looked back after leaving Yazo.Due to the fact Yazoo he felt there was to much success and Vince and Alison didn't know each other at all.Since he found her by putting a ad in the paper for a vocalist for a synth band.He had already did this twice before with The Assembly and Peter Quinn.Jeremy healy was definitly clubbing with the like of pete burns, boy george and most likely DJ now.It seems almost every 80s muscian is one now.Even Andy Fletcher from Depeche Mode does a occasional gig or two.
