Default Hi y'all on the disco floor

Hi there,

The stagename's Robin Gibblet and I'm a professional singer who loves the Beegees.

You've got a great community site going down here and I look forward to getting stuck in and sharing my knowledge of the all things disco with all of you - starting now.

First got into disco after hearing the mind-blowing Cucumber Castle by the Beegees . From that moment on I also knew that I had to become a professional singer.

I achieved that at the tender age of 14. After winning a local talent show I was signed up by a major label - the rest, they say, is history.

So much has happened since then, some good things (touring the Channel Islands), and some bad (bankruptcy in the late '80s). However, through all this I have learned that if you have the strength of character you can survive. As the Beegees sang in Lonely Days:

"Good morning mister sunshine, you brighten up my day,
come sit beside me in your way"

We should all remember that.

So from me - on the disco floor, to you - bopping 'neath the strobes,

Auf wiedersehen,

Robin

So, Robin - how's life after Coronation Street treating you? You look an awful lot like Chris Quentin!

Welcome, Robin. Is Coronation Street like a British soap opera or something? They always mention it in the "Are You Being Served?" skits.

Also, why does the lp cover say "Barry" Gibblet :-? ? Oh, hell, never mind, I get it... Bee Gee's. :D Robin, Barry... damn I can be so dense at times.

Hi nicknacknoo,

You got a great site here - it's looking good like you know it should!

I'll tell you the story behind that LP cover...

For 10 years I toured as Robin but in the late '80s I suffered bankruptcy which led to a nervous breakdown (long story). I withdrew from the tribute circuit and grew a thick beard.

When I finally drew the courage to return to the stage my old fans suggested that I made for a better Barry Gibb. Needless to say, I had to change and re-train my voice and act - more throaty, less nasal.

I hope that helps.

Auf,

BARRy GIBBlet

'Coronation Street' is the world's longest-running TV soap (trust we Brits to have that accolade) and has been shown here, without fail, since 1960 P.F. (pre-Forrrce).

It's set in 'Weatherfield', bleakest Manchester, where the streets are cobbled and narrow - and the locals talk funny (Steely's gonna have me for this one, but it would probably have to be translated for US consumption). Despite its incredible run, it has introduced token ethnic minority characters, only fairly recently.

During cliff-hanger episodes (which I'm sure are less regular than Halle's Comet) the National Grid reports gargantuan power surges during ad-breaks, when the whole of the UK makes a quick cup of tea!

Coronation Street has a big following here in Canada.Me included. The CBC network airs a two hour segment every Sunday morning that I try to catch. If you watch it long enough the jargon becomes more decipherable .I laugh when I recall my wife watching it for the first time and asking me"What the hell are they saying? Is that the Queen's english?"
