Difficult to know exactly what you're after, but try these two. You may be able to hear them somewhere or other.

As Dimitri throws in a few left fielders, try Electric Mind - Can We Go, or Glenn Adams Affair - Just A Groove. They're quite funky, but with commercial appeal.

Hope this helps.

Great though the Glen Adams is, it features one of the most unsteady drummers ever to grace a disco record. Be warned!

Electric Mind is as solid as a rock though, so that will be a good'un. Probably be good fun to mix in and out of the more sparse, dubby instrumental side, Zwei, to weave a magical spell.
I just used to love the understated cooing chicks as much as anything else on the Glenn Adams record, but as you stated, it is a bit of a yo-yo tempo wise.

I love "Bite the Apple" by Rainbow Team also. Here's a song that sounds similar - the 1981 Italian production "My Mind" by Korja. It's available in both vocal & instrumental versions. Also somewhat similar is the B.B. & Q. Band with songs like "On the Beat".

Teena Marie's "I Need Your Lovin'" (1980) has an enthusiastic high female voice reminiscent of the energy of the woman who sings "Bite the Apple".

"Keep on Movin' and Groovin'" by Atlantis (1982) and music by Chic and Change may also fit your needs. And try "Straight Ahead" by Kool and the Gang (1983) and "Take Your Time (Do It Right)" by the S.O.S. Band (1980).
