Hey All
I'm Ed and have just found this forum. Been into house music for around 14 years and more recently got into disco. I've been buying records for the last 10 years or so and am starting to buy more and more disco.
I'm hear to pick your brains on all things disco and to share my thoughts on the subject too.
Looking forward to spending many an hour skiving work on thissite.
cheers
Ed

Smile Re: Lurkers To This Forum, Please Introduce Yourself

Hey there! I'm probably the longest lurker on the board (but not the oldest swinger in town - 34 going on 35 ! )

I first experienced disco 'lite' when I was around 6 or 7 - when my parents listened to 'safe' things like ABBA, Boney M, James Last, Bee Gees, Village People etc. (I even remember being taken to see 'Can't Stop The Music' at the local cinema (RIP) - can't imagine why????)

Anyhoo, as time went on, my tastes changed, into pop & then dance/electronica and then - kaput - I started to lose interest, the music was all sounding the same, and I didn't enjoy being in this musical 'rat race' of sorts. I wanted to follow my own path (deep huh?!)

Then I thought back to when I was younger, not obviously going back to what my folks listened to, but what was around at the time - Glam rock, ELO, Bowie... and slowly moved on to develop a taste for the real disco groove (eurodisco, philadelphia, and so-on).

Not to mention that I was once something of a sci-fi geek (I still am a bit!), as sci-fi & disco came together beautifully at the end of the 70s (Star Wars etc), and has also inspired me to discover further....

Sorry if this is a bit long, but we all start somewhere....

Ian

We are actually a very friendly group of people who share the same love of Disco and dance music as you do. We don't bite so please take a moment to register if you haven't and break the ice by replying to this post and telling us a little about yourself.

We'll welcome you to our growing community and make you feel right at home. Let's hear from you!
Well I'm not really a lurker but actually a new member to the board from Canada. This is my first post so be kind. ;) I've visited the main site numerous times and noticed that there was a forum and decided to join in on the discussions. Looking forward to chatting with everyone.

Got into disco way back in the 70's - showing my age - and have been a big fan of dance music ever since. I have a large collection of vinyl with a large bulk of it being disco, funk, r&b, soul, pop, 80's dance and more.

Not exactly new here now. Not a stranger to online fora either. Suppose I did 'lurk' around before joining here though. So I took the plunge one day and signed up.

The different fora I am a member at usually have a section on 'what you listening to?' or 'what's your favorite music track?' ... Seems I'm in the small minority when my answers usually contain a lot of disco and eurodance stuff. That's why I signed up here. Didn't know there was still so many of us out there.

I do of course like other genres of music*, so it's not entirely the same stuff all the time.

Like a lot of you, I was 'introduced' to disco at an early age when my parents bought a 'music center'** (early hifi stereo system) in the mid 1970s. This was forever playing those disco compilation albums that seemed to come out every few months and the music just stuck in my head I guess.

**This was a very good and rich sounding Sony system and was still on the go in the late 1990s when I simply had to have a clearout as having FOUR hifis in my bedroom was getting a bit too much. Although I seem to be collecting again, as I have three more now at my present location.

*Disco aint the only music I like. I do like a bit of rock/pop, certain types of dance music and even a bit of classical and jazz. Not a fan of rap or RnB though. There may be the odd one I do get into, but as a genre in general, I'm not a fan of this type of music. Another one I seem to get into is celtic music, from the energetic riverdance style stuff to the haunting sounds of the old Ireland.

So there you go, a very brief introduction to my musical tastes.......
