Hiya there.

Just came accross discomusic.com here not just a few hours ago while searching for the missing info I needed to complete the tracklist for my Jazzonista Nights compilation I've just completed. It's a sassy compilation if I might say. The song? 'Makes You Blind'. I think now that it's The Glitter Band. Nice piece.

Me? I'm an (presently) amateur jonny-come-lately sonalmixologist with a illusions (methinks pretty strong doc) of becoming a club conductor. What's that? Connect with me if you are interested and I'll tell ya.

Yes, that's right, dj'ing just wont do for me! Biggest respect to dj's, of course. Actually, I'm practicing to become a dj myself to move with my love of the uplifting groove, 'cause I like my treats and music is it.

I have loved disco--let me think now--since exactly (just came back from google to check for you) when Blondie released 'Heart Of Glass' and 'Call Me'. My older cousin (she was maybe 14 then) used to play it while sun tanning. (At the time I thought that eight pbj+b sandwiches in my belly was the right h'ors derves for an afternoon of swimming.) 'Call Me' was so sparkly for me at that time. Now the memories are floodin' in. Wanna join me down memory lane just for the fun of it? This is where disco began for me. Let's go way back to when I was nine in '79. Its all about the musc and this special Dodge Ram Disco Grooving Machine.

My uncle (my disco cousins father) loved listening to 8-tracks of Elvis while he used to take me and my best cousin (her brother, and mine too really (as I didn't have one then (but I do now, and he's 28! time grooves on, eh?...)) for cruises or errands around in his...now wait for it..Dodge Ram Camper.

I didn't know it then, but now I think my uncle was in the disco underground at the time. He used to have these 'choo choo' parties and there was some silly action alright! (I can't verify as I was in bed but not asleep at the time) Anyway, the camper. It was The DISCOVAN man! The roof was extended up a foot and it had two of those crank roof vents (I imagined them like spoilers). There was also a fridge and stove...blah, blah. Now get this, the best part was its color tones. It was gold and tan with gold and tan stripes. It rolled on five stars! Can you picture it? There are still a few around here and there. (Dodge did have a cool front grill back then...I'm such a guy...:-D) And because he was parapalegic, he had all the time in the world (permanent disability due to a logging accident; nice pay too, but I digress) to take me and Steve around. Sadly, Steve is no longer with us...tough time got the better of him. Sigh.

Anyway, its okay and all good. He had a motorcycle-style accellerator/brake handle for control and the first time I cranked it, I thought I was going to launch that machine right into orbit. So cool.

But the best part of it all was where they lived. It was paradise for me. Deep canyons, multiple 100ft.+ waterfalls, caves, 90-foot diving cliffs, nude sunbathers, endless bike trails, trees, ice cream trucks...all set in the big rolling of the Laurentides. Get this--they lived just 15 minutes outside of Quebec City in the best suburb any young person could imagine. (For those who want to head out there, check out Chute Montmorency, a falls about 100 feet or more higher than Niagara. Take your nude bathing suits if you're open to that too.)

Well, that's all for memory lane everyone. This is where my disco roots (if you call Blondie disco) sprang. Nice for me.

I've got little else to say, so for now, I'll be working on my gig and texting with yous in some time. Drop me a note if you are near the GTA.

Peace and Prem

Post Re: Lurkers To This Forum, Please Introduce Yourself

Hello Fellow Music Lovers and Bernie
I had joined here many years ago and lost touch. Back when Bernie did the original 500 top Disco List I was in there voting. Lost touch and lost my password it's been that long. This site has evolved so much since then and it's so amazing to see how far it's come. The clubs section was not here then and I went and looked up quite a few that I went to. To see DJ's

and see the memories posted from back then really put me on a nostalgic trip down memory lane. Like, Gee! It's really been that long?
Unfortunate for me I lost All my beloved vinyl in a nasty breakup.
The ex got in his car and just drove and as he was driving kept throwing them out of the window. Must have been a long drive! Thank goodness for the digital age I got it all back and then some. Thanks to this site and all of you. You are all my #1 DJ's!
Don't Stop The Music
Warmest Regards
DiscoDiva

Question Re: Lurkers To This Forum, Please Introduce Yourself

HI, I am new to all this and only joined in the hope of tracking down some hi energy disco music from the 80's. I have the titles but not the artist, so its makes searching hard. the list is
Jack mis
Katmandu
Come inside
Passion
The Ultimate war
Waiting for the train.

All i know is they were played in most gay clubs in the mid 80's, Hazel Dean period. If anyone knows this music get in touch.

Hi,
My name is Jimmy. I found this site by searching for the Monastery dance club that was here in Seattle in the late 70's/early 80's.
I went to the Monastery every weekend for about the last three years it was open. It was the most fun I've ever had.
I've got a bunch of old music. Probably not as much as many of you. I never mixed records. I just liked owning and listening to them. Two of my favorites are Mama Told Me by Fantastique on blue vinyl and a remix of Gloria by Laura Branigan that is called Gloria in 3D.
I'd love to talk about the Monastery with anybody that's interested. So many people are gone but there are a lot of us that are still around.

Hi Meredith,
I think Katmandu is probably Hills of Katmandu by Tantra. I have it on Windows Media. Here it is:
http://www.yousendit.com/transfer.ph...F5081B3CE7047A
Passion was done by The Flirts and Bobby O. It shouldn't be that hard to find (I hope). The rest, I'm not sure about.

Jimmy

as somebody previously wrote, Katmandu --probably "Hills Of Katmandu" by Tantra

Passion--probably "Passion" by The Flirts

The Ultimate war--probably "The Ultimate Warlord" - The Immortals
Waiting for the train.--probably "Waiting For A Train" -- Flash & The Pan was one version---might have been another....;-)

Cool Re: Lurkers To This Forum, Please Introduce Yourself

Hello people ; I have been registered for a while but sortof forgotten about it...
I'm a huuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuge disco fan and have been for over 30yrs.

I'm Canadian and have been buying dance music since the 70's when I was just a kid.I used to go to these specialist record stores in Montreal and pick & choose the stuff I wanted amongst the DJs who would also shop there.

I'm also a record collector and am in the process of transferring all my stuff to CDs.Just bought a new DJ tunrtable and I have a blast recording and adjusting the sound and the speed of my favorite disco records.

So here I am ; I shall be back often because after all DISCO IS MY LIFE !!

Hugs my cyber-friends

Thumbs up Re: Lurkers To This Forum, Please Introduce Yourself

Hi All,

I'm a long time "lurker", but have recently started getting into the posting.

It's great to hear from those of you who have such a great knowledge of disco music.

I've always loved dance music from an early age, but as far as disco goes, my introduction really came from listening to house music in the mid 80's onwards, then tracing the origons of these tunes back to the disco era.

It's been a great experience going back to an era that I almost completely missed - well I was only a child at the time! And even in the 80's, when dance music was gaining momentum worldwide, the only place you could find it in Melbourne Australia was on late night radio shows on community stations - and in one or two import record stores - that was it - it was very underground! How things have changed.

So a big thankyou to people like Alan Rados, Paul Marinelli, the guys on the Disco and Funk show on KISS in the late 90's, Central Station and Mighty Music! I'm sure those names ring a bell to some others on this forum.

And a big thanks to Bernie and all those who make this site a must for the disco fan.

cheers
Darren :D
