Default GREAT NEWS - AL GREEN BACK WITH A NEW CD

Heard a great track I Can't Stop from Al Green's forthcoming CD on Saturday's Jonathon Ross show (BBC radio 2). It sounded just like his old material from his early 1970's prime. Apparently it's produced by Willie Mitchell, at the same studio, using exactly the same microphone on Al's voice that was used all those years ago. From the track I heard it's almost impossible to distinguish from the golden era. One to look out for, it's released in a few weeks time.
Al Green certainly was THE BIZ."

UPDATE: Details and soundbites from the Blue Note website (sorry no link, but I'm computer illiterate with such things).

I googled "Al Green" + "Willie mitchell" + "new CD"

I read about this one on Rolling Stone a few days ago. Sure could be great, but I remember a previous "comeback" non-religious album in the early Nineties wasn't that great.

Al Green was a true soul genious. 8) Up there with Marvin Gaye, I think.

I hope so. I didn't hear anything yet.
Right now my target is a 4 CD Al Green box I saw at the fair (in MP3 format, but what the hell... plus it has a couple of Curtis Mayfield LPs and the Impressions box). Soul material other than the average Aretha compilation is hard to find here these days.

All I can say is... Al Green is back on my wish list. Big Time!

Talk about taking me back :D . Yeah, I hear a little weakness in the voice but baby it still sounds sweet. And that Memphis sound --- sllightly updated but not thrown away in favor of today's 'rhythm box' music. Can't wait for 11/18.

Left me speechless. It's as if I've been transported back to the early seventies WOW!It's about bloody time someone put out real music.Music that touches your very being.I simply adore Million To One.Can't wait to get my hands on this CD.A glorius return by Al Green who hopefully can turn on a whole new generation to the soulful sounds of a bygone era.

What's Al Green got to do with disco? Sorry, I know he's a soul legend but has he ever done anything remotely disco-ey? I've got a feeling i'm going to be informed.

Don't know how long you've been in the disco scene but Al Green was a a must play in the early days of disco 72-75.Great tunes such as Love & Happiness,Let's Stay Together,L-O-V-E, etc.True these were R&B Soul hits but this was the genre of disco music along with funk in those days. You wouldn't consider Marvin Gaye a disco artist yet he was another preimenent soul crooner who had big hits during the disco era."Got To Give It Up" was a huge disco hit in 1977 but in the true sense it was an R&B tune devoid of the so called "disco sound" of the day
