Why not? Disco to me is:

1. Rhythm

2. Imagination

3. Remembering

4. Relaxing

Oh, did I take the wrong understanding?

I agree with Boodikka; it was meant to be facetious and not vicious or mean spirited. Best to all.

I can't believe we're now getting bloody anonymous Steve Dahl wannabes typing these anti-disco messages on the board. I'm suprised Bernie hasn't deleted that bastard's post yet. I can only suggest that Bernie disables the anonymous posts so we don't have to put up with such crap like that on the board.

This is the first time I've seen such unfriendly posts on this board slandering disco. And I hope it's the last.

Forgot to add, what makes a song disco to me is a song with the following

1 - has percussion (in most cases)

2 - has a dancable rhythm

3 - has some funk or a lot of funk

4 - can be soulful

5 - it can have a lot of electronic instruments eg (From Here To Eternity by Giorgio)

6 - can have driving bass and guitar rhtyhm (optional)

7 - usually has drums

8 - does not sound like rock or hard rock or heavy metal (with a few exceptions like "I Was Made For Loving You" by KISS, "Slow Down" by John Miles and a few others)

9 - in a lot of cases involves a lot of horns and strings

A lot of the points I mentioned are optional but basically that's what makes disco to me, but there is also soul disco, disco funk and even disco rock in some cases. It depends on the person for what they think is disco or not disco. I personally call a lot of early 70's funk disco music like:

Bar-Kays - Son Of Shaft 1972

Curtis Mayfield - Get Down 1971

Jackson 5 - I Want You Back 1969

Little Royal - Soul Train 1972

Ohio Players - Ecstasy 1973

etc...

I agree. I can tell that comment was meant to be a joke. Then there's me, who likes both hard rock and disco. Of course, everyone here already knows that.

I was so raged that I forgot to read your opinion regarding Mr Anonymous and posted my anger regarding this bloke. I still only half believe that Anonymous is joking around because these boards do get the odd trouble makers comin' in and writing terrible messages and Mr Anonymous might be one of those blokes who want to start trouble. If Anonymous is joking around PLEASE reply and let us know so we don't get the wrong impression. Otherwise if you are a Steve Dahl wannabe and want to cause trouble then STAY AWAY FROM THIS BOARD!!!

Well, I thought anonymous' comment was FUNNY!!! Come on people, lighten UP!

I actually thought it was Outsider who made the comment and I just chuckled to myself because we both like rock and disco. I thought it was a good natured ribbing, because my post could have started some shit, too. We all know we're sick to death of the topic "What is and what isn't disco."

So I was having a little fun and I think anonymous was too.

Please note that as we get new people on this board, the topics will no doubt recycle so we shouldn't be too quick to jump down someone's throat if that happens. Let's just be gracious and share the wealth of knowledge that everyone contributes! And have FUN!! Even at our own expense!

I couldn't agree more. All it does is scare off potential new friends from posting. Besides, had it really been a negative post, the last thing one would want to do is show that one's buttons can be easily pressed.

I totally agree with you. That comment is nothing to get worked up over, especially after what happened on September 11.

No, that wasn't me. And while I'm sick of the "what is and isn't disco" topic as much as everyone else here, I knew that you weren't serious with your comment. The same goes for anonymous.

Exactly. I couldn't have said it better myself.
