The Supremes in Argentina

Surprisingly, yesterday's local papers announced the visit of "The Supremes with Mary Wilson" for this Friday night. It will be a one-night only concert at a downtown Buenos Aires theater, and the tickets are incredibly cheap!
Knowing a bit about the international concert business, it's really strange because of the anticipation (less than one week) and the ticket prices.
Maybe the sponsoring of the U.S. Embassy (featured in the ad) has something to do with it. Who knew? Mr. Bush is making something good after all! :D
I plan to go, and then telling you all about it...

Don't wish to rain on your parade but if it's the Supremes without Ms.Ross then it just doesn't have the appeal.If anything it's probably worth it from a nostalgia point of view if the tickets are real cheap.

Actually I saw The Supremes several times without the Ms. Ross and they were quite good. The show did no revolve around the lead singer, they all took turns and they were all fantastic. I saw them with Jean Terrel and with Scherrie Payne. Once more, they were great.

If Miss Mary is getting the billing... THEN she be singing all the leads. The other 2 "supremes" will be from central casting.

I've seen Mary's act at numerous "street fairs" and she's OK...BUT, it ain't like the REAL Supremes...any version, IMHO.

Let's face it, Jean Terrell, Scherrie Payne and Miss Ross had the voices that sold records. Mary is merely competent, sad to say. :roll:

You won't believe it guys... I couldn't get a ticket! The house was sold out. It was a medium-size theater with around 1,000 capacity.
According to a review in a local paper, the girls did a decent show but of course without the glitter of the old days. The trio was composed this time of Mary Wilson, Karen Newman (with "very beautiful plasticity" says the critic) and Kimberley Davis. All three voices were in good shape and there were many costume changes also.
The band was a mixed affair between foreign and local musicians (the latter doing the horns). The "anglo" names were Don Harris (trumpet), Judy Albano (keyboards), Ray Pannell (guitar), Eugene Perez (bass) and Donzell Davis (drums). I name them just in case you guys happen to know them.
The set list opened with "Coming out of the dark", "Love child", "My world is empty", "Reflections" and the night's first dance classic, "You can't hurry love". It also included "Baby love" (dedicated to the males in the audience), "Stop in the name of love", "Walk the line" and curiously, a version of "Dancing in the street", a hit in the voices of then-competitors Martha & The Vandellas.
The concert ended with a surprise medley of two Stones songs: "Satisfaction" and "Brown sugar", and the critic seemed (moderately) pleased.
Of course there is nothing like the original, fellas, but it was the first time a Supreme put a foot in Buenos Aires and it sure was a good chance to see a soul survivor. Sadly, there was no "encore". :oops:

I agre a 100% with you NANO, and I'm sure I'd run to see MARY WILSON here on my town if I had the opportunity. I agree with MARKY, MARY WILSON is not a great singer, but she's a ture MOTOWN legend, a original SUPREME, and that's enough for a MOTOWN fanatic like me.
